Deco M9 Plus - natmask
I have tried to configure Deco as AP for wireless clients on my network, my network uses a 255.255.240.0 netmask (192.168.0.0-192.168.15.255) my wired clients mostly uses DHCP to receive fixed adres from DHCP server. First I have tried to set Deco's addres as dynamic, from DHCP, but then Deco works only with it internal DHCP server and mobile clients receives address outside my network pool - Deco don't want to take offered addres by DHCP server (I see DHCP offer on DHCP server log file). Than I have tried to set IP and netmask by hand, but when I write my netmask (255.255.240.0) on Deco config I receive information that IP is wrong (i have tried to set 192.168.10.21 - so it is OK), but when i change netmask to standard one (255.255.255.0) everything works fine it is accepted by Deco - but od course, I don't have access to my 192.168.11.* network and these is a problem...

Hi,
There is one question regarding to the IP address obtained by the wired clients which connect to the first TL-SG108, did they get IP address automatically or you assigned static IP for them; The IP of the main router/DHCP server is 192.168.10.x, so the IP address of wired clients should be 192.168.10.x. And with the 192.168.11.x, not on the same subnet, theoretically, there is no internet internet with the 192.168.11.x IP.
What about the current operation mode of the Deco M9 plus? It is the router mode or the access point mode?
Meanwhile, with your device connected to the Deco M9 plus, can you access internet?
Thanks in advance, and have a nice day.

Yes, they get IP address from DHCP server but i use a DHCP reservation for most of my clients so they get always they same adress, they are on one subnet. Subnet is determined by netmask, all my clients normally use 255.255.240.0 netmask, so adresses from 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.15.255 are on one subnet (http://jodies.de/ipcalc?host=192.168.10.10&mask1=20&mask2=). All 192.168.11.x clients have internet access through 192.168.10.10 router.
For now Deco have dynamic IP 192.168.10.x set by DHCP server and netmask 255.255.255.0 which I have temporary changed on DHCP server becouse it won't accept 255.255.240.0 netmask (don't know why). But now becouse of 255.255.255.0 netmask i have two subnets 192.168.10.x and 192.168.11.x and the subnets cannot communicate between. Deco is set to function as AP and wireless clients can connect internet, but i want to use my old netmask to have larger adress pool.
I think there is something wrong with netmask calculation on Deco, that is the reason I can't (and my DHCP server also) set it to another than 255.255.255.0...

Hi,
It is suggested to configure Deco M9 PLus as access point mode, then the devices connected to the Deco units can communicate with other device in the same netmask.
May it help and have a nice day.

As I wrote above...
"Deco is set to function as AP and wireless clients can connect internet, but i want to use my old netmask to have larger adress pool."
All I want is to set up 255.255.240.0 netmask on my Deco, but Deco don't want to accept netmask another than standard one (255.255.255.0) - these adress pool is not enough for me.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
How did you set it up as AP? And for your information, I'm afraid that the operation mode is still wireless router cause there is no DHCP server existed on Deco when it works as access point mode, and the IP address of the Deco will be assigned by the DHCP server (PC); and it has nothing to do with the subnet mask; all the packets will access internet through the gateway.
You can open Deco app, tab more-advanced-operation mode to confirm it.
May it help an dhave a nice day.
