Hi,
The TL-WR940N supports multiple operation modes, including range extender/repeater. Please follow the instruction below to configure it.
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1383/
Note: Please use the main router's wifi password to set it up.
After that, please test whether you can access internet.
May it help and have a nice day.

Hi Kevin,
I want to do WDS mode only for my setup and which is not working. You have any idea why it's working? Need to upgrade the firmware or it's a router fault?
Best,
Dhruvil

Hi Dhruvil,
It is the same thing, enable WDS means that you can connect this router to the main router by wireless to extend the wifi range, while the 940N supports range extedner/repeater mode, so you do not have to enable WDS manually, you can change the operation mode and configure it as a repeater.
Meanwhile, you can try those methods mentioned in last reply.
Any updates, please let us know.

After you set it up the range extender, with your computer or cellphone connected to the 940N, what is the IP and gateway it obtained?
Instruction as below:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/838/
Meanwhile, what about those information when the computer is connected to the main router directly bypass the 940N?
Good day.

Hi Dhruvil,
I got your point, usually the extending SSID uses WPA-PSK as authentication type, for the current one which uses the portal authentication, it is hard to say whether they can work together. Cause we have no idea any limits or compatibility issue between the 2 routers.
Back to your case, below are some troubleshooting you can have a try.
1. With 940N connected to the radius SSID, you can connect your device to 940N and test whether the authentication page pops up.
2. Ensure that the current firmware is the latest one.
If still the same, I'm afraid that they may not able to work together.
Nice day.
