Model: TL-PA9020P KIT
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: TL-PA9020P(UK)_V3_180511

Issues with the speed of TL-PA9020P V3.1 with latest firmware for V3 hardware with new isp on 1gbps fiber plan, the speedtest result are from my desktop which is connected to my asus ac88u router which is connected to TL-PA9020P to the Linksys Velop in my Living Room. Even when I manually set the speed limit I only manage to get 171mbps download speed which is not even close to the 600+mbps speed detected.

Hi,

What is the current network topology?

Try to change another wall socket to plug it and ensure that the powerline light is yellor or green; then please test the speed. Or you can locate the powerline adapter in the same room as the main router and test the atcual speed.

You can follow the below instruction to narrow down the issue and tell us some details:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2231/

a. The speed you can get from 9010 when it is in the basement.

b. The wired link speed of your computer; how to get it: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2265/

c. The powerline link rate between the powerline adapters which shows up on the tpPLC utility.

Any updates, just let us know.
Good day.

Hi Kelvin,

My current setup are as what the cso from the isp recommend: Fiber to the modem and then goes to my velop mesh and then goes to the homeplug in the living room which will then connect to the homeplug in my bedroom and then to my asus ac88u router. I have override the velop mesh speed limit but right now I am unsure if the problem is on the isp side as it is persistent and I don’t have this issues when I was using the previous isp by cloning the MAC address of the velop and directly connecting the homeplug to the modem.

Thank you!

Hi,

So the current network topology is fiber modem--velop mesh--TL-PA9020P--power line--TL-PA9020P--asus router?

With your computer connected to the velop mesh router by wired cable, what is the speed you can get?

Besides, please test the speed with your computer connected to the 9020P directly and show us the screenshots.

Do not forget to check the wired link speed as the instruction below:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2265/

Please check the powerline rate between the 9020P kit via the tpPLC utility as well.

Is there any bandwidth control or QoS settings enabled on the velop mesh device?

Nice day.

Hi Kelvin,

I am getting 300-400mbps when my computer connect to the velop mesh by wired cable.

Thanks, could you please provide more informatoin mentioned in my last reply so that we can do further analysis.

Besides, below is the download link of the tpPLC utility which you can use  to get the powerline link rate between the 9020P kit.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/tl-pa9020p-kit/#Utility

Here is an instruction you can refer to as well:

Nice day.

Hi kelvin,

This is currently what i am getting from the tpPLC utility and the result from speed test which is rather shocking as there is a very huge difference between the report speed by tpPLC and the speedtest result. Also the homeplug is running quite hot like at least 50-60c temperature is this even normal as I know that the low poer mode kick in when there is no internet activity detected?

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. FYI, the current firmware is up to date.

From the picture, the powerline link rate between the 2 adapter is 735Mbps, while please notice that it is not the actual speed, the conversion rate (The ratio of transmission rate and powerline rate) is about 30%-40%, in other word, the actual speed equals 30% or 40% of the powerline link rate.

Taken the interference into consideration, the current speed seems fine. And the wired speed you get from the velop mesh is about 300-400Mbps. All the devices connected to the network will share the bandwidth.

Or you can move them into the same room and plug them into the wall sockets to check the speed you can get; if still the same, then there is not much we can do, it is more related to the actual environment.

Good day.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for the advise, it seem that my isp is not providing stable speed hence the poor experience.

@Twen

Thanks for your valued reply.

If so, you can contact the ISP to do some troubleshooting and make the network connection more stable.

After that, you can test the speed you get form the powerline adapters.
