Deco M9 Plus parental controls; how to white-list a URL
I see no way in the parental controls to whitelist sites (only blacklist) per user. I have one teenager trying to access sites that should not be blocked (in my opinion) - for example www.speedo.com (a web site for swimming accessories and clothing), and www.vintageandvinyl.co.uk (a record store)...
I understand TP-Link curates sites for their hard coded whitelist, so how does one submit valid sites for inclusion (if it is not possible to whitelist them in the app)?

Thank you very much for your kind feedback.
I would like to forward your case to the senior engineers for further assistance.
At the same time, could you please update the firmware to be the latest one to have a look at:
Deco M9 Plus(EU)_V1_1.5.1_210126
https://static.tp-link.com/2021/202102/20210219/Deco_M9_Plus_V1_1.5.1_210126.zip
By the way, did you set up any parental control for the devices in case it was blocked by the parental control categories?
Thanks a lot and wait for your reply.

Hi,
I have been using multiple tp-link routers they all had much more advanced parental control possibilities, like blocking specific URLs or whitelisting specific URLs.
In the current state the deco parental controls seem useless to me and might have to go back to my router based system. What a shame and waste!
You already have the soft on other products and now give us this highly restricted and pre-configured unusable sh... ?
I really don't get it!

@TP-Link_Deco while it might be a pain, to do, if Deco could publish a list of blacklisted URLs, and then let parents remove the websites they find appropriate it should Whitelist the URL (by not blacklisting it) seems like the easiest workaround while the "whitelist" feature is being worked on. (Maybe this is published but I have not found it) I use the X20 myself, and I absolutely love it (I don't have kids), but I am researching this for my family who have kids, I am contemplating promoting Deco as a solution for them mostly because I can admin remotely (my family are not technical). But finding information on parental controls is difficult, I understand that you may not want to reveal too much information on how Deco Parental Controls work, but by revealing nothing it is making life more difficult in trying to reach a decision on if Deco is the right choice for their needs. Please don't misinterpret this, I am not really complaining, but just sharing an view from a customer perspective.

It's just a load of old flannel from TP-Link. If the code is there to have a custom blacklist, then it would literally take minutes to use the same code and rather then reject an URL to accept it. This is pretty poor in my opinion, especially as I started this thread two years ago.....

Hi @ToddH and all, thanks you all again for your valued suggestions.
As we respond earlier this feature request has been forwarded to our R&D team, and they are evaluating how to improve or add this functionality. While there is currently no exact date or time expectation for the new firmware supporting it.
It is suggested to keep an eye on the Deco app or the official website for any updates in the future.
We hope you could understand and wait, thanks.
Hi any update on this feature. Adult content is far too broad and makes the parental controls absolutely useless and have had to turn them all off
Cant believe such a basic feature is missing. If I new this before I bought 3 M9 devices I would not have bought them

Hi,
Deco M9 Plus supports to whitelist a URL under Antivirus.
For more details, please have a look at this link:
What should I do if I cannot open a website through Deco network?
As for parental control, the URL under different categories is based on the Trend Micro database.
So if any websites have been miscategorized, it is suggested to go to the website https://global.sitesafety.trendmicro.com to confirm the category of the blocked website, then please leave me a private message and also send feedback to the Trend Micro as well.

Thanks for this. It does appear to work. However, this will apply a global policy over all users regardless of what the filter is set to in parental controls? So for all intents and purposes this is useless. If I whitelist for example the UK nationallottery web site, it means all users can then access it.......

Dear support team,
2 years for prioritizing white list features?
With possibly 30 mdays of development? And even having disclaimer that extended list will suffice the speed?
Should we drop your ratings on Amazon for this attitude?
Yours,
A.

This was requested in July 2019 but has not been implemented till now in Nov 2021.
It is clear that your company doesn't care about the voice of customers.
This along with other limitations such as use of private address makes the parental control features of your router worthless.
What a shame!
