Hi,

 

I am not sure this is an ISP issue or a router issue. I have a PPPoE
connection with my ISP (static IP address), and often after restarting
the router, or whenever the PPPoE connection is restarted, the PPPoE
connection fails during the negotiation phase. The router sends the
"PADI" request, but never receives the "PADO" response. System Logs show
"Timeout waiting for PADO packet". I've determined with the ISP
technical support that the PPPoE access concentrator in that case
rejects my PADI request based in the MAC address provided. If I then go
into my router settings and change the WAN MAC address by 1 digit, the
connection succeeds. But if I then restart my router, the same thing
happens. If I change the WAN MAC back to the original MAC address, the
connection succeeds again.

 

The ISP has tried to investigate on their Huawei devices, but cannot
find any reason for this behavior. I'm hoping somebody might know what
the reason (and fix) for this is? I love my TP-Link router and would not
want to change it. And if I do need to change it for whatever reason,
I'd like to purchase another TP-Link router, but I need to know that it
will NOT have this problem.

 

Anybody any idea?

Please connect your computer to the modem/internet source directly and setup the PPPoE connection. Instruction as below, here we take Windows 10 as example.

If it works well, please connect your computer back to the Archer C5 V1 by ETHERNET CABLE. 

 

Then login to the web UI and clone the mac address under advanced-network-mac clone.

@Kevin_Z , sorry for asking but what difference would that make? I have *never ever* before connected with my laptop directly to this ISP. They have no idea what laptop (actually I have 4 intel based devices at home) I have, nor what it's MAC address is. All they have ever seen is this specific router.

Setting up the PPPoE connection on the computer is to verify whether the username and password are correct and whether the computer can get internet finally.

 

If it works, we can connect the computer back to the TP-Link router by wired cable and clone the computer's MAC address, therefore, we can avoid the interference from the MAC address.

@Kevin_Z  there are no username/password issues. If you recall I wrote that if I change the router's MAC address by even 1 digit, the connection works. Anyways, at the stage of the PADI/PADO packet exchange there is no username/password involved. That happen much later in the PPPoE connection setup.

Hello sir, I'm having the same problem here and i surfed whole internet for a solution but i still couldn't find anything, so i wanna ask did u fix this ?

Have you tried my previous suggestions replied to the OP? You should give that a go and confirm if there is an issue with the ISP or the router.

 

BTW, what is the model number and hardware version, firmware version of the router? Who is your ISP?
