Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.0.4 Build 20180425 rel.72768(5553)

Hi everyone,

I have two questions:

1.- Archer C7 V5 Firmware 1.0.4 Build 20180425 rel.72768(5553): Is there any way that i can rename the connected devices? I have 10 phones connected and everyone is listed as "android-48612488413" for example, also a few other devices are listed as "*".

2.- TLWR941HP V2 Firmware 2.0.1 Build 20171225 Rel. 60160: This is my AP, the main router is the Archer C7. In this case the Archer C7 is connected to the WR941HP from LAN(C7) to WAN (941HP) and the 941HP is in mode Access Point mode. If im not mistaken it have to use the WAN port in the 941HP because in Access Point mode it turns the WAN port to act like a LAN port, and also everything is working fine.

The thing that i dont understand in this case is that in the 941HP Network tab, LAN, i have to put an IP (192.168.10.3) which is outside the Archer C7 DHCP pool (10.100-10.199) but im unnable to connect to it using that ip, if i want to connect to the 941HP configuration i have to check in the C7 which IP the DHCP gave to it and then use that ip. I think i can use address reservation but i want to know what is the point of settiing up a LAN ip in the WR941HP because maybe im doing something wrong.

Thanks!

@WhiteMoon

First, you can modify the device name manually. You can use the Tether app to do so, or you can login to the web UI and go to basic-network map page, click the clients and click edit to change the device name.

For the TL-WA941HP, cause it supports operation mode--access point, once you changed the operation mode to AP mode, you need connect the WAN port to the lan port of Archer C7 to get internet.

For the static IP, you can setup a LAN IP which is in the same subnet as the main router but not the same LAN IP of Archer C7, like 192.168.10.99.

May it help and have a good day.

Hi, i cant find that option to edit on the web UI, everything is text and cant edit:

Second, thats they way i have it connected. And this is the Network setting of the WR941HP, but im unnable to connect to it using that IP. The Archer C7 IP is .10.1 then i have another AP with IP .10.2.

@WhiteMoon

For the Archer C7, please upgrade the firmware first and then check whether the device name is editable under basic-network map page.

For the TL-WR941HP, with computer connected to the main router, can you ping the 941HP with 192.168.10.3? Please show us the result.

Or you can connect your computer to the TL-WR941HP only and assign a static IP for your PC if needed and try to access the web UI.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/14/

Besides, try to assign another static IP for it which is included on the DHCP pool of the main router.

Good day.

For the Archer C7. Ok thanks, im updating when i see a new build because right now i see alot of threads mentioning bugs in that one and i dont wanna take the risk.

For the TL-WR941HP, pings shows destination host unreachable. And i just tried with another ip for the WR941HP under "Network-LAN" tab, in this case with one inside the DHCP pool of the Archer C7, 192.168.10.110 and the result is the same. Thanks!

@Kevin_Z Hi again I just updated the Archer C7 and i can rename devices as you said. For the WR941HP problem i just assume that there is a bug, its not a big problem anyways. Now i have 1 suggestion and 1 problem The suggestion is to show the devices name under the traffic monitor tab because it only shows IP and MAC. And the problem is that the Advanced/Status page and the Basic/Network Map tab shows devices inaccurate, its really a mess. Im pretty sure its because most of the devices are connected to APs and not directly to the C7. Every time i refresh any of those pages they can show from 4 to 7 devices connected, i can keep refreshing all day and in every refresh the number changes, obviously the information is wrong. For example right now i dont see my phone connected from the C7 but it is connected.
