Model: Archer C6
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.4 Build 20190923 rel.63745

I have a 240/20 Mbps internet connection.

When I connect directly to the modem using the same cat5e cable, the ethernet connection is stablished at 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps) and the internet speed reaches 240 Mbps of download.

When I use the same cable to connect the Archer C6 to the modem, it seems that the ethernet connection between them is stablished at 100 Mbps, because my internet is limited to ~95 Mbps

In this last scenario (using the Archer C6 between my computer and the modem), I use another cat5e cable from my computer do the Archer C6, and the connection between them is stablished at 1000 Mbps.

So, the diagnosis is that (most probably) the Archer C6 is stablishing 100 Mbps with my modem, because using the same cabe directly from my pc to the same modem, the ethernet connection is stablished at 1000 Mbps, not limiting my internet bandwidth.

@Heinz_S

Hi, if any of you still encounter an issue with the speed, which is capped at 100 Mbps when connecting to the TP-Link router, please check the troubleshooting suggestions we provided here, and report back if the issue is resolved or not:

New information! When connecting my computer to the 5GHz (AC) Wi-Fi network, I get my full internet bandwidth.

So, it seems that the router is applying kind of a limitation/QoS on the ethernet connected devices, even with the QoS disabled!

I called the TP-Link technical support, and they diagnosed that my router has a problem. I am sending it back.

@paulocoghi

Thanks for your updates. Cause you have returned it back after you did the troubleshooting with our technical support, you can get a new router later and test its performance.

Any further problem, please let us know.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused here again.

Have a nice day.

@Kevin_Z

I’m having the same issue where the internet speed is limited to 100mbps. If I connect the modem directly to my laptop, I get about 400mbps while if I connect through the AC1200 router, I get about 90mbps. I’ve tried router configuration to see if there is an option to turn off QOS but not able to.

@paulocoghi Ya I connect my PC directly to cable modem and I get 940 mbps download. If the router is in between my PC and cable modem then my download is capped at 94 mbps!!! I checked the ethernet connection using https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2265/ and it is in fact 1 gbps. But internet 1/10 of what is supposed to be. Box says full gigabit, but that's not what I'm getting. I'm almost certain that this is due to bad negotiation speed betwen cable modem and the router.

@Nanosecond Initially I also thought it was a problem in the speed negotiation between the router and the modem, but I found that the problem is different.

As I said earlier, after creating a 5GHz wifi network through Archer C6 and conecting using a device cabaple to use 5GHz wifi, I get my full internet bandwidth speed.

Thus, if the router were connecting to the modem at a speed of 100Mbps, it would not be able to provide higher speeds over wifi as well, but it provided.

Sadly, the problem is deeper.

@paulocoghi Thanks for the insight!

The front of the box says full gigabit ports with an ethernet symbol. That is the only reason I bought this router. I don't even care about it's wireless abilities, but it's hard to find a router that doesn't have wireless built in these days.

Maybe it's an internal chip limitation, or firmware problem? I'm about to return it, I just can't continue paying for gigabit internet but only being able to use 1/10 of it!

@Nanosecond exactly!

I bought it for the same reason, to use it with gigabit speed on cable, which it doesn't deliver, and I returned it for this exact issue.

The wireless insight was just to explain that the problem wasn't about the internal speed negotiation, but other things, like firmware (as you said).
