Slow internet when running through Archer C2, fine when connected direct?

Model: Archer C2
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my Archer C2. I have an EE broadband router & I have plugged an ethernet cable into one of the back ethernet ports & connected the other end into the internet ethernet port on the Archer C2.

The EE router gives out access to my lodgers whilst my Archer router is for my own network.

If I connect directly to the EE Router for internet I get very good speeds, if I connect to the Archer router my speeds are terrible. These tests are both down from the same PC connected via WiFi. I'd have expected the Archer with it's two aerials too be far better with speeds but ???

Also just connecting to my Archer via wifi to the 192.168.0.1 pages takes ages to load over wifi. I've played with various settings, changed channels etc. Any ideas?

P.S. Plus I continually get locked out of the Archer router page saying only one log in at a time allowed, despite only having one tab open? Grr

Hello, cause the Archer C2 works as a subordinate router, the bandwidth is limited by the main router, distance and interference.

We can do some troubleshooting on this issue first.

What is the bandwidth you paid for your ISP?

And what is the speed you can get from the EE broadband and the Archer C2 separately?

Please connect the computer to the Archer C2 by wired cable to test the speed and click here to verify the wired negotiation speed.

Note: Steps are the same, please click ethernet or loca area connection.

And please ensure that the firmware is up to date.

Good day.

@Kevin_Z Hi, thanks for replying.

I can't direct my Archer direct to my internet as internet is RJ45 connection but the Archer only has ethernet in.

So I have an ethernet out from the router & into the archer. When I connect to the Archers wifi I am getting about 1.76mbps download speed whereas when connect to routers wifi I'm getting about 25mbps. Also just file transfer are ridiculous on my Archer, frequantly drops the connection & unable to complete a file transfer.

Yet the same file with my router connection whizzes over. Very strange.

I was using the archer to keep my network private from my tenants as we all use the same internet, unfortunatly my broadband router supplied by EE UK doesn't have a guest network facility. :-(

RJ45 cable is the ethernet cable, do you mean RJ11, which is available for DSL connection?

With computer --Archer C2--EE broadband all connected by wired cable, try to test the speed you can get from C2 directly. And please click here to get the wired negotiation speed.

Note: Steps are the same, while you need click ethernet connection.

Besides, try to customize the wireless settings of the Archer C2, like wireless channel and channel width to optimize the wireless performance.

Further more, you can setup the EE broadband as bridge mode which is used to scynchronize the DSL connection only, and configure the Archer C2 as the main router and enable guest network to give it a shot.
