i use Linux mint using the latest kernel, but my brand new Archer does not detect in there

I got the driver from the site and it will not compile under a v5 kernel.

 

Is there latest kernel support in the offing? or are there driver sources available elsewhere?

 

or should i return this dongle?

Hi, Jason, below is the download link of the official driver for Archer T4U.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/archer-t4u/#Driver

 

And it has the driver for  Linux (kernel 2.6.18 ~ 4.11).

 

Back to your case which has the latest kernel version, it may not work, while you can try to search online, like the manufacturer's website or Github to get the suitable driver.

 

The chipset of Archer T4U V3 is RTL8812BU.
