Region : UnitedKingdom

Model : TD-W8968

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version : 0.6.0 1.1 v0005.0 Build 121016 Rel.48690n

ISP : BT

I have a large house so to create coverage I have linked an TD-W8968 (192.168.1.1) with a WR2543ND (192.168.1.2). The TD-W8968 provides the ADSL connection and DHCP whilst the WR2543ND is just setup as a wireless AP.

Firmware Version:
3.13.17 Build 120509 Rel.33890n

Hardware Version:
WR2543ND v1 00000000

Firmware Version:0.6.0 1.1 v0005.0 Build 121016 Rel.48690n

Hardware Version:TD-W8968 v1 00000000

Getting some interesting logs on the WR2543ND
7 1st day 10:56:44 DHCP INFO DHCPC DHCP Service unavailable, recv no OFFER
6 1st day 10:56:42 DHCP INFO DHCPC Send DISCOVER with request ip 0 and unicast flag 1

And the TD-W8968

1 2012-12-31 10:32:30 IGMP Warning V2 igmp router occured! Not matching ours V3.
2 2012-12-31 10:30:40 IGMP Warning V2 igmp router occured! Not matching ours V3.

6 2012-12-31 10:30:25 IGMP Warning V2 igmp router occured! Not matching ours V3.

Any ideas on what I need to clear these issues ?

The TD-W8968 locks up after a while and when some devices roam between the wireless networks they get a connection but cannot access any network resources.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are the router and the modem connected wirelessly by WDS bridging or wired by using an ethernet cable?
If they are connected by a cable, the modem should be connected to the LAN port of the router.
If by WDS bridging, by learning the WDS technology http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_distribution_system,"WDS may be incompatible between different products (even occasionally from the same vendor) since it is not certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance"
If you have configured it correctly and it doesn't work, it could be the incompatible issue.

The two devices are connected using an Ethernet cable. I'm not using WDS bridging as they are just about out of range of each other. The TD-W8968 is a modem router. I have replaced the TD-W8968 with a old BT home hub and this configuration seems to work !!! Which suggests that the TD-W8968 has an issue ? Again any help appreciated as the old home hub 2 only runs wireless at about 120Mbps which is one of the reasons I bought the TD-W8968.

Region: South Africa

Model: TD-W8968

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware version:0.6.0 1.1 v0005.0 Build 120926 Rel.27100n

Did you solve this issue?

I am using exactly the same devices, and I get the exact same messages in the log.

I am using WDS.

TD-W8968 (192.168.1.1)
Firmware version:0.6.0 1.1 v0005.0 Build 120926 Rel.27100n
Hardware version:TD-W8968 v1 00000000

TL-WR2543ND (192.168.1.2)
Firmware Version: 3.13.17 Build 120509 Rel.33890n
Hardware Version: WR2543ND v1 00000000

From the TL-WR2543ND diagnostic menu I can ping the TD-W8968 and I can also ping the TV I have connected with ethernet. However, if I try to ping the TV from my laptop connected wirelessly to the WR2543ND I can't, but I can ping the TD-W8968.

I guess there must be a version clash? I hope they can update the software to support this.

EDIT: I should add that everything worked perfectly when I had my TP-LINK MR3420 in the position of the TD-W8968. However, I want my ADSL modem and wireless router to be one device and therefore bought the TD-W8968. I hope it wasn't a waste of money :-(

Ok, so I got this reply from TP-Link support:

Thank you very much for your email requesting information about our product.

TD-W8968 cannot have WDS connection with TL-WR2543ND since their wirless module is from different manufacturor with different techonolgy.
TL-MR3420 could establish WDS connection with TL-WR2543ND, because their wireless modules are all from Atheros and use the same technology.
I’d like to give your two suggestions for your problem now:
1. Replace TD-W8968 with TD-W8960N or TD-W8950N with can establish WDS connection with TL-WR2543ND;
2. Replace TL-WR2543ND with an TP-LINK AP or Range Extender, and then use Universal Repeater( for AP) or Range Extender mode to extende the wireless network.

If you need any further help, please feel free to let me know.
To get technical support more quickly, please go to http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/
Best Regards

So I went and ordered the TD-W8960N. I just received the delivery and will give an update once I have everything running

Haha. Ok, so the TD-W8960N also gave the same problem with the TL-WR2543ND, it does not matter if I use WDS or connect with ethernet.

I have now gone back to my old equipment namely a TL-WR2543ND and a TL-MR3420 and I have a separate ADSL modem connected to that. Everything works fine. I gave the TD-W8960N to my dad and the TD-W8968 to my cousin.

It's a pity to hear that. However, as far as I am concerned, TD-W8960N should be able to be connected with TL-WR2543N with WDS. when you set them up, maybe you can check the settings: has Bridge Restrict disabled, is the channel and wireless security the same...

I get the TD-W8960N and TL-WR2543N to connect to each other yes and other devices that use wifi can connect to them, but as soon as I add a device to the TL-WR2543N's ethernet port, it is not detected on the network. The same thing happened when I used the TD-W8968 and the TL-WR2543N: the wifi option worked fine, but I could not add anything to the ethernet port of the TL-WR2543N.

It was just easier to go back to my previous setup.

I'm facing the same problem and same contents in the log.

Model : TP-Link TD-W8968
Firmware Version:0.6.0 1.3 v0005.0 Build 131226 Rel.33881n
Hardware Version:TD-W8968 v1 00000000

I'm facing this problem since a few days ago, before which it was perfectly fine. I'm not connected to any modem, but the Cat-5 cable from the ISP goes directly into the router's EWAN. I'm using the router in ' Wireless mode'. This problem persists even after upgrading to the latest firmware and persisted before upgrading also.

The problem is as follows.
Whenever I press the ' connect' button on the ' WAN Settings' page, the router goes into a ' connecting...' loop. OR It displays ' Connecting...' for 3 secs and reverts back to ' Connect'. In both the cases nothing is written into the Debug log. This problem sometimes gets solved after 2-3 router reboots. If not, I try the below method. Also whenever I disconnect and try to reconnect again, the problem reappears and gets solved only by constant reboots.

Sometimes I switch to the ' Always on' method and the router successfully connects to the Internet.

I always ensure that my ISP servers are up and the Internet is not down either by connecting to the Internet via my PC or by connecting the cable to my LAN port and dialing to PPPoe from the PC. Which also ensures that my cable is not damaged either.
