Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.3.1

Hi.

I have 5 Deco M5 installed now.

The main Deco is connected to the fibermodem at the main floor at one end of the house.

The other units is scattered across the house, two at the main floor and two in the basement.

It's a ordinary wooden house with some plaster walls and some wooden. No concrete at all.

The strange thing is that all the other Decos connect to the main Deco, even if there are other Decos nearby that clearly has better signal.

The result is that the Deco at the opposite end has one bar and 25 out of a total of 300 Mbits speed.

Is there a way to force a connection between the Decos?

Is there a way to optimize the mesh?

Is there a way to visualize mesh to see which unit is connected to which?

br,

Bjarne

@Bjanker

Sorry to tell you that there is no option to force a connection betwee the Decos yet, we can do some troubleshooting first to narrow down this issue and try to fix it.

What is the current network diagram? How do these Deco units connect to each other?

How far away between each other?

From your description, all slave Decos connect to the main Deco even though there are some other Decos closer to it; therefore, the signal strength and speed has been affected. It seems that the signal strength does not reach the threshold value, therefore no AP steering/band steering triggered. You can locate them further away from each other and verify whether it will connect to the closer Deco to get better signal strength.

The Deco M5 now supports displaying how Decos are connected to each other. You can go to Deco app and click one of the slave Deco to see the signal source.

Best regards.

@Kevin_Z

Hi.

It kinda looks like they have figured out some stuff between each other now.

All 4 slaves was connected to the Main Deco on friday, but now some of them has connected to other slaves.

I have not done any speedtesting the last days, but will do this later today.

In regards of distance:

There is approx. 8-10 meters between the units, often separated by not more than one wall.

3 units on the first floor, one in each end and one in the middle.

2 units in the basement, one is almost visible from the Main Deco, and the last one in our tenants livingroom on the other side of the wall.

I will let this run for a while and do some more testing.

An easy way to see the entire mesh (like Google and other has) would be a great addition to the Deco app.

Which unit is connected to which, and speeds between them.

Thanks,

Bjarne

Hello Bjame, thanks of ryour reply.

You can take some time to run them for a while, any updates, just let us know.

And for the network map, you can login to the web UI of the Deco to get it if your Deco supports web UI feature.
