Model: Archer A10  
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.2 0.9.1 v1000.0 Build 190305 Rel.62969n(5553)

We have had this router for less than a month.

 

We initially had "smart connect" turned on, but over time, the router would become unstable (devices would connect, disconnect, connect, disconnect repeatedly all within seconds) until we restarted it. 

 

After a few times of this happening, looking at the router stats, all the devices connected recently were in fact connected to 2.4GHz, none were on 5 GHz.  So we turned smart connect off and configured the two bands separately to look into it further.  

 

We connected two laptops, one to 2.4GHz and one to 5GHz and ran pings through them at the same time.  Both laptops were right next to the router.  The 2.4GHz band had virtually no packet loss, the 5GHz band had almost 10% packet loss.   

 

Help?  Could there be some problem we can fix?  Or is it likely to be a problem with the hardware itself?

Hello, we will do some troubleshooting first to locate this issue and try to fix it.

 

What is the led status of the Archer A10 when it stops working? 

 

With device connected  to the 5GHz, does it able to get internet even though it has poackt loss?  Please show us the pictures of ping results of the two wifi bands. 

 

At that time, please login to the web UI of the Archer A10 and show us a screenshot of the advanced-status page.

One thing I forgot to mention is that we have this router configured as an access point. 

 

It seems to take 2-3 days for the wifi to degrade, and then it fixes itself with a restart.  When it degrades, the LED status is the same as it is when working normally.

 

When it degrades, if we have "Smart Connect" turned off, the 5GHz pings look like this:

 

--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---

1000 packets transmitted, 921 packets received, 7.9% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 9.473/13.732/74.973/9.264 ms

 

And the 2.4 GHz look like this:

 

--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---

1000 packets transmitted, 997 packets received, 0.3% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 9.485/18.219/128.055/12.613 ms

 

The next time it degraded we had "Smart Connect" turned on, and the results were: 

 

--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---

666 packets transmitted, 446 packets received, 33.0% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 9.382/11.174/116.497/7.265 ms

 

It does have internet when it degrades, but the computer keeps disconnecting and reconnecting from the wifi completely.  If we connect to the other router (the one with the modem) it's wifi and internet work fine. 

 

I don't see an "advanced settings" page per se, do you mean the "System Tools - System Parameters" page?
