Model: Deco P7
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.3.1

I have five Deco P7 units in my house. The main Deco unit and 3 others are connected via ethernet cable, one Deco unit is connected via Wifi.

That one Wifi unit, i will call it the "remote deco" because of its location, has a really poor Wifi connection to the main unit which is 17 meters (two walls) away, although there is another deco unit at 7 meters (one wall) which should provide a much better wifi connection to the "remote deco". But the "remote deco" just won't connect to it.

Also, although the powerline adapter shows a "greenish" color occasionally, it seems "somewhat orange" at the moment (please use better distinguishable colors in the future). I have no clue about the quality of the powerline connection, there isn't any info about it in the app. All Deco's are directly connected to the same power system (we only have one phase).

I removed and reinstalled the "remote deco" two times, no success.

I disabled beamforming, no success.

I want that "remote Deco" to connect to the nearest Deco unit, but i can't force it. Also i would like to force Powerline, but i can't.

Should a Deco unit be able to connect to any other Deco unit which isn't the "main" unit? That's the whole idea of a Mesh network right?

Please help.

@AM1

Hello, to fix the signal source is not supported by Deco series product yet, while we do have some similar feedbacks and we have forwarded to our product department; they will evaluate the feasibility.

Back to your case, the slave Deco can be connected to the other slave Deco or main Deco in the same mesh network as designed; it seems that the signal strength obtained from the main Deco does not reach the threshold value which failed to trigger AP steering; you can move them farther away from each other; or you can reboot the remote Deco to give it a go; And you can turn off  the main Deco first and make remote Deco connect to other Deco nodes and turn on the main one.

For the powerline backhaul, it shows orange means that the powerline rate is slow which affects the performance; you can change another wall socket to plug the Deco P7.

Besides, we would keep working on it and try to make it more convenient and easier.

Good day.

@Kevin_Z

This issue was reported at least a year ago perhaps more.

Are you ever going to fix this?

Tp link Deco as it is, is NOT a true mesh product.

@AM1 I have the same issue, I just noticed that the "mesh" is not truly a mesh, all repeaters connect to the main deco which is an issue if the main deco is on one side of the house. My concern is that this has been reported for a while now with no resolution. I'm also considering changing to another company's solution if this doesn't get fixed soon.

@poyojorak

I have the similar issue.  I have a remote office and have a printer in there .    I have a M9 unit in the office connected over powerline and the printer only connects to the unit indoors which is so far away the signal is very iffy.

Poor design if you can't reselect the wireless repeater closest to the device.

@TP-Link Will you enable this feature ?
