Router date changes to 1970, Internet stops working until router is restarted from wall outlet.

This router is about 5-6 months old. A strange problem started in the last 2 months and it used to happen randomly during then but now the router stops working almost every day. The wifi stays connected but it says that there is no internet connectivity. I cannot open the router page or ping to it. Sometimes the wifi ping reaches extreme latency from 1ms to even 1300ms right before the router is about to mess up. Everything becomes normal the moment i restart the router by disconnecting and reconnecting the power. Oddly enough when I go to check the router after restarting it. I always see the date right before the time of restart to show 1970 although after restart the date shows correctly and the log updates with the correct date and time maybe because it is connected to the time server..
I have read about this in other sites involving a c6 where he said that the problem would resolve only if he restarted it too.
Sometimes this problem will happen everyday but different hours and sometimes there is a gap of a day or two.
Any thing I can do to fix this terrible device?
