Hi,

Ive just set up wifi mesh using the deco M5.

Everything is connected apart from all my smart home devices.

They run on 2.4ghz so I turned off the 5ghz but still they will not connect.

Is this becasue there is only one shared signal sending out both 2.4ghz and 5ghz and not 2 separate signals?

Is there a work round?

One solution I read was to install a separate 2.4ghz router to connect the smart devices.

How do I do this and will is cause issues if my alexa's are on the 5ghx mesh and the smart devices on the 2.4ghz router.  Will they be able to 'talk' to each other

Is there another product better suited to the whole set up

Thanks

Hello, there are two separate networks even though they use the same SSID and password, one is 2.4Ghz and the other is 5GHz. And the devices connect to the 2.4GHz and 5GHz can access each other; actually, all LAN devices can access each other, so you do not have to worry about that.

Try to disable fast roaming and verify whether you can connect the smart home devices to the Deco.

And you can connect the main Deco to the modem only with other slave Decos unplugged and then disable 5GHz to give it a go.

If still does not work, please tell me the model number of the smart home devices.

May it help.

Hi Dave, thanks for your valued reply.

Please tell us the model number of your smart home device, the devices you want to connect to the Deco mesh network, not Deco M5.

Besides, have you ever tried to connect the main Deco only and disable 5GHz?

If the smart home devices still cannot connect to the Deco mesh network, is there any error message?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply.

You can try to enable guest network and verify whether you can connect the smart home devices to the guest network, and you can enable guest network as open wifi ( no password needed) to give it a go.

Besides, the Deco network supports WPA/WPA2-AES/TKIP, please verify the security type supported by the smart home devices; And you can contact their tech support to get some help.

Best regards.

Hi all,

I am having the very same problem.

I can not connect to my Deco M5 units, any smart device. Whether it's my air conditioner, the fridge or any other smart electrical switch.

needless to say, I am disabling my 5ghz network, keeping only the 2.4ghz.

I can't nevertheless keep just the main unit, as some of the smart device connected to remote device.

all my three M5 devices are connected thru LAN and works as AP.

Please help?

I am using the E4R Decos.  If it’s any help, I disabled 2.4GHz on the main Deco network and use that for my 5GHz devices. I then disabled 5GHz on the Deco guest network and use that for my smart devices.  I use separate SSIDs for the main and guest networks. This has worked for me. I have no issues controlling the smart devices on the guest network from devices on the main network as, I assume, all they require is Internet access.  I would be interested to know of any other solutions.
