Model: Archer T3U
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Dear,

I switched provider and went from DSL to cable. Fortunately I can use a 1GBit/s line for a year for same price as lower bandwith.

Connected the T3U to USB 3.0 on the backside of my pc and have no signal. Connection to USB 2.0 on top of my desktop pc I have.

PC is about 7 meters away from router but I only receive poor 40MBit/s. Upload is perfect at 50MBit/s. This is what the provider gives.

What I already tried:

Changing channels & Changing USB ports. Downloaded latest drivers from TP homepage.

Honestly, if it says AC1300 and receives 867Mbps on 5GHz or 400 Mbps on 2,4Ghz, what am I doing wrong?

I have a cable modem and am currently connected with a network cable which does not make so much sense when having a USB Wifi adapter.

Havent seen a chance of a GUI where to find adapter version or firmware. I also have to connect to my Wifi manually as it wont connect automatically.

Any suggestions?

Hello, do you connect the PC to the 5GHz or 2.4GHz of the main router?

With your desktop connected to the wifi, please click here to get the wireless negotiation speed. Please show us a screenshot of it.

Besides, you can move it closer to the main router and verify the speed you can get.

I wish I could see how the adapter connects to the router. I have a Vodafone Station which supports 1GB/s and has both frequenzies active.

How do I know if my adapter connects to 5GHz or to 2,4GHz?

ps: speed increased after I setup my machine from scratch. TP drivers are installed.

pps: Found the option to set adapter to 5GHz but then the cursor wont work. Guess my mouse is working also on 5GHz and interrupts the adapter. Mouse frequency is not changeable.

@Leonardo069

Hello, your router is a dual-band router, if the 2.4G and 5G wifi name are the same, it will be difficult for you to distinguish which wifi you are connecting to.

According to the picture you sent, you are connecting to the 2.4G wifi.

If the speed is still slow, you can try to change the 2.4G channel to 1,6 or 11, bandwidth to 40Mhz, change the 5G channel to 36 or 44, bandwidth to 80Mhz, then test the speed again.

Good day.

@Stella.Q

Thank you for your suggestions. I`ll attach an overview with all WiFi Networks around. So no chance of better reception by changing channel.

Bandwith is 20/40 so you cannot choose only 40. And when I change channel I loose signal.

@Leonardo069

Hello,

The adapter is 7 meters away from the router, if you test speed there on other devices(phone or laptop), how many speed can you get?

You can uninstall the driver on the computer, click here to download the new one, then refer to the instruction below to install it manually.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/920/

Note: turn off the firewall or antivirus when reinstalling the driver.

@Leonardo069

Thank you, will test it.

I will look for an AVM Cable router anyways as the provided VDF router is not really a big one.
