Hello there,

I am looking at buying the TP-LINK Deco P9 Powerline Mesh.

My house is currently wired as follows:

Half the house has Cat6 ethernet cable sockets (This feeds into a central server room with a rack and location of BT modem router)

Other half of the house does not have ethernet sockets

I wanted to know whether I could do the following with the P9 units.

Have some P9's connected to internet via hardwire via ethernet (not wifi)

Have some P9's connected to internet via powerline (not wifi)

Example:

BT Smart Hub 2 > ethernet > server rack > ethernet point (bedroom) > P9 Unit 1

BT Smart Hub > ethernet > server rack > ethernet point (kitchen) > P9 Unit 2

BT Smart Hub > ethernet > server rack > ethernet to powerline unit (from server rack) > P9 Unit 3

All to spread one SSID around the entire house. Essentially Access Point mode, via ethernet and powerline.

Is this possible?

Hello, it is possible. The Deco P9 supports ethernet backhaul, wifi backhaul and powerline backhaul both in router mode and AP mode.

You can set them up as access points and connect them to the cat6e ethernet sockets, then they will communicate with each other via ethernet cable.

While there is no option to disable one of these backhauls, but the wifi backhaul and powerline can work together; you can use them both to improve the performance of the Deco units.

And there will be one SSID only on the Deco mesh network. Besides, you can click here to get the differences between the router and AP.

May it help.

@Kevin_Z

Hi Kevin,

Is it possible to have 2 of the Deco's connected to the rack by Cat6, and then 1 of the Deco's connected via WiFi to the nearest/strongest Deco?

When setting up the "WiFi" Deco, can I pick which Cat6 Deco it is connected to?
