Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.10 build 20190809

Hi,

I have the DECO M9 plus v2 3 pack. the current firmware installed is 1.2.10 build 20190809.

On the website of TP-link the latest firmware is. Deco M9 Plus(EU)_V2_200117

Via the DECO app it say latest firmware is installed.

I wanted to install it via the GUI, but there is no GUI availeble or its disabled.

How to proceed to install the latest firmware?

Thanks,

Marcel

@THEPRFCTEN the utility does everything automatically. I have 3 M9 v2. All three were updated at once. And the restart happens automatically at the end of the process.

@marcelvanrooden See this thread. Lots of people having similar issues with updates not showing up in the app.  There is a response from Kevin Z (admin) on that thread that sheds some light on why.

@marcelvanrooden

Hi Marcel, the latest firmware displayed on the official website is the first firmware for the newly made Decos coming off the factory line now, compared to 1.2.10, there is no new feature added. You do not have to upgrade it.

Besides, for the request of the new firmware, we have notified our product department and RD team, they work hard on it and would release it immediately once it passed the whole tests.

Good day.

@marcelvanrooden I agree it's very confusing. I wish they would sort out the way they publicise their versions.

@Kevin_Z

Most frustrating on this topic is that the V2 firmware has less features than the V1. I got part of my mesh network replaced because of an issue, so I've got both V1 and V2, with the latter having less features.

By the way in my case the TP-link support told me I CAN update and they provided me a tool for that. Unfortunately that tool throws an error. The answer from support on that is that I can send it back to the dealer for warranty. However, I really won't know how that is going to help if I read the threads on this topic here.

@marcelvanrooden

Hi, I have managed to update the firmware finally, however the documentation is badly in need of a rewrite:

TP-Link Deco M9 Plus Ver:1.0 – This Supports WEB-BASED MANAGEMENT via http://tplinkdeco.net

TP-Link Deco M9 Plus Ver:2.0 – This does not support WEB-BASED MANAGEMENT AND FIRMWARE UPGRADES NEED TO BE DONE USING “UPGRADE_GDPR.EXE” INSTEAD.

Couple of notes on the “upgrade_GDPR.exe”

Download the firmware package Deco M9 Plus_V2_200117_Firmware

Extract the firmware file “M9Plus_2.0_en_1.2.13 Build 20200117 Rel. 50852_US_JP_EU_up.bin” and rename it to M9.bin

It appears that the upgrade_GDPR tool doesn’t like long file names, then follow the instructions for the upgrade_GDPR too.

Hi, Deco M9 Plus(EU)_V2_200117 Firmware https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/download/deco-m9-plus/#Firmware The firmware install utility "upgrade_GDPR.exe" should be available from TP-Link Support. I can't upload it here. I originally found a link on this forum, so if you go back though the firmware support, you should find it. I logged my original support issue with both TP-Link Irish & UK Support, and I documented the steps for how to apply for them.
