AX50/AX3000 : poor AC download performance under Windows 10
Hi,
I recently replaced my TP-Link repeater RE650/AC2600 (used in AP mode) with a wifi router Archer AX50/AX3000.
NB : RE650 has 4 antennas and is 1733Mbps at 5GHz.
With Android 9, on my Honor 9 smartphone (in 802.11AC mode at 5GHz, bandwidth 80MHz, connection speed 433Mbps), the download throughput is always much better with AX50 : I get 300Mbps instead of 150Mbps (with RE650)
But with Windows 10 64bits 1909, the download is slower in 802.11AC mode at 5GHz with a bandwidth of 80MHz (connection speed 866Mbps) :
- HP laptop with intel 9260 client : I get 350Mbps instead of 550Mbps
- Lenovo laptop with intel 7260 client : I get 300Mbps instead of 450Mbps
Sometimes, I could get better results, but 95% of the time, this is what I get. I tried multiple combinations of parameters which gave no improvement.
It is rather strange that with Windows, I'm getting about the same download throughput than with my android phone, although the connection speed is twice as big (866Mbps vs 433Mbps)...
Moreover, the only way I could connect the intel 9260 client (which is 160MHz compatible) at 1.5Gbps was by setting the channel width to 160MHz (auto didn't work) with channel 36, but the download throughput was no more than 580Mbps (about the same as I get with the RE650 at 80MHz with this client).
By the way, with the AX50 router, Acrylic software shows a maximum speed of 1134Mbps in AX mixed mode, 866Mbps in AC mixed mode. With my RE650, the maximum speed displayed is 1733.4 Mbps.
Is my unit faulty or does the Archer AX50/AX3000 perform worse than the RE650 in 802.11AC mode with Windows 10 ?
Best regards,
Chris
