Model: Archer A9
Hardware Version: V6
Firmware Version: 1.0.4 Build 20190403 rel.63102(5553)

Hi all,

my scenario:

   - 2 devices in the profile

   - bed time 10pm to 8am

   - the time limit of a few hours per day

   - the kid usually uses up all the time allowance even before the bedtime and gets the "your time is up" message

   - not sure what happens between 10 pm and 8 am, but I presume they'd have got the "howling wolf" message had they tried to connect

my issue:

   - after 8 am both devices are still unable to connect, the router saying that "the time is up"

my workaround:

   - reboot the router

or (and that is ridiculous)

   - simply view details of any Parental controls profile in either Tether or the web page. I swear, as soon as you click a profile name in the list in Tether or click eiher "Insights" or "Edit" buttons on the web management page, the devices can successfully connect.

Upd. "Insights" show 0 minutes, obviously.

Is it a known problem? Any plans on delivering a solution? Should I return my router?

Thanks,

Bob

@SilentBob_3135

Hi Bob, what is the country version of your Archer A9? It is printed on the back label, next to the model number.

@Kevin_Z

Hi Kevin,

Bought from an Australian online retailer, but the label says US.

The router says it has the latest firmware.

Thanks,

SB

@SilentBob_3135 I now this is an old post. Maybe it helps someone else.

Each device that has a restriction it's based on the client MAC address which is how the phone/laptop/tablet gets an IP via the DHCP server. When you reboot the router you're forcing the device to renew the DHCP lease.

You could try to reset the device. You can set the lease time to something less, the default is 120 min.

You might to also check that the time limits and the time allowed are not conflicting. For example the time limit resets at 12am and the time allowed is 8am-10pm. The restriction would still be in place pre 8am the same day.

If none of that works you can try address reservations or avoiding DHCP and see if using a staic IP works.
