Hi

I have recently purchased E4 (set of 2) for my home use. I later realised that E4 will limit my WiFi speed to 100 Mbps. Given I have a 300 Mbps broadband & a need for a 3rd node, I have 2 options

1 - Return the E4(set of 2) & buy M4 (set of 3)

2 - Buy a single piece of M4/M5 & use it as a master node along with existing E4s as slave nodes. I am assuming this option will give me more than 100 Mbps on WiFi.

Please can you advise which will be a better option? I am inclined on option 2 as it will be least messy.

Thanks

Himanshu

@Himanshu_IN

Hi Himanshu, the two options both work for you. The LAN port of E4 is 100Mbps. If it is connected to the M4/M5 by wireless, the speed you can get from it can be higher than 100Mbps via wifi, but the LAN speed won't be higher than 100Mbps either.

Actually I cannot tell which one is better cause they have their own pros and cons. If the LAN speed from E4 is acceptable, you may choose option 2.

Good day.

@Kevin_Z Thanks. I hat decided to go ahead with option 2. I am able to buy Deco M5 single piece in my country.

Follow up query - I can see Deco M5 provides many advanced features (homecare, antivirus etc.) which are not supported by E4.

I wanted to know if I use M5 as my master node, will I be able to utilise these features via the E4 slave nodes

@Himanshu_IN It depends on your router, it has nothing to do with APs.

So, if you set up an M5 as your router you will get all it's features on your network.

@Himanshu_IN

I am also looking for same kind of setup.

are you able to get speed more than 100mbps on E4 when connected as wifi node and M4/M5 as main deco?

@Mayurlankeshwar

I haven't done that yet. Honestly I am a bit disappointed with Deco product & customer support so decided not to invest more money in TP link

@Himanshu_IN

Hi,  I done a similar thing and get the E4 unis as I was using poweline adapters and geting speeds of only 15-20Mbps.

The E4 was easy to set up and was getting speeds of 40-50 over most of my house with speeds of 85-90 near the main unit.

I set the E4 up as an access point and when I connect directly to my router I am getting speeds of 250-300.

I got the m5 unit today and started again with the M6 as the main unit.

I am now geting speeds of between 150-200 over most of my house with over 400 from the main unit.

A massive improvement, so worth doing.

Cheers,

Peter

@Himanshu_IN Have you tried this setup yet? I am planning to do the same setup and I am looking for answers.

@Kevin_Z Is it a guarantee working setup ( 3 E4 and one M4 or any other model that has a gigabit ethernet port that is connected to the main router)?

If you use it as a mesh, and the slave are going through the main to access internet, i guess this might work, but if you're using it as AP with ethernet backhaul for example, and your slaves have straight access to internet, I don't see how they would manage to benefit from the main features as they don't go through it...

so only possible if your traffic goes through main deco to get out your home network.
