Hi all

 

I actually have an Archer VR1600v, but that does not appear in the dropdown list.

 

I am trying to setup OpenVPN so our staff can work from home during Corona virus home isolation periods. I managed to get the remote PCs (and Macs) to connect fairly easily. They can access the internet, and I can remotely ping and log into LAN devices using various web portals.

 

However no remote devices can see the local NAS drives. The issue exists in windows (ie Windows Explorer) and with Macs (Finder). I can get into the web portal of the NAS server itself (ie via web browser type in 192.168.1.xxx).

 

OpenVPN Settings:

Service Type:     TCP

Service Port:      1194

VPN Subnet:      10.8.0.0 / 255.255.255.0

Client Access:    Internet and Home Network

 

My LAN settings:

IP Address:     192.168.1.1

Subnet:           255.255.255.0

IGMP Snooping:  Enabled

Snooping Mode:  Allow

Second IP:     Disable

DHCP:          Enable

IP Address Pool:      192.168.1.2  -  192.168.1.70

Default Gateway:      192.168.1.1

Primary DNS:            0.0.0.0

Secondary DNS:       0.0.0.0

 

Any ideas? I did some searching and find people having similar issues, but no solutions. One suggestion on a Linksys was to setup a static route, which had some different settings to TP-Link and I couldn't get anything to line up and work.

 

Any help much appreciated.

@Mutski Hi All. I also tried using PPTP and had the same issue. Is there some static routing I need to add also?

Hi, do you mean when the remote PC connects to the VPN, it can ping through the PC in local, but can't ping through NAS? Can you access NAS in the local PC? What's the NAS's IP address and default gateway?

Hi Stella.

 

The remote PC can ping anything on the local LAN. I can access the web portals of local devices. ie via a web browser I can access 192.168.1.xxx devices, including the NAS. The trouble is that trying to browse the network drives using either Windows Explorer, or Finder on the Macs, they can't see any network devices. In fact using Explorer you can normally click on Network and see other computers, the NAS, some media servers etc. When connected remotely it only sees itself.

 

* The default gateway is 192.168.1.1.

* The LAN DCHP is 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.70.

* The LAN netmask is 255.255.255.0.

* The NAS is set to DHCP, but is reserved by the VR1600 router to be static at 192.168.1.110.

* I have a dyndns account which is working ok.

* The NAS works fine when the PC is physically on the local LAN, but not when the PC is remote VPN.

* The VPN DCHP is 10.8.0.8.

 

Any further info you need? Appreciate the help. We think that by tomorrow night our city will be in lockdown and all staff will be working from home.

@Mutski Gave up. Bought a Ubiquiti. Problem solved immediately. Should have done it ages ago.

I'm experiencing this exact issue on a C2300.

Can connect to VPN - but can only access the Internet and Router's LAN IP (to access the admin console) when connected to the VPN.

Nearly identical settings/scenario as above.
