Can't update firmware on Deco M9 Plus v2
Can't update firmware on Deco M9 Plus v2
I recently set up a Deco M9 3-pack (V2), and when I go to "Update Deco" in the app it says that my firmware (1.2.12) is up to date when it isn't -- that firmware is 5 months old and there is a newer version 1.2.13. When I download the firmware from the Support site (https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/deco-m9-plus/#Firmware) the instructions say that I should upgrade via Web interface (at either http://tplinkdeco.net/ or my LAN IP address) but there is no Web interface as far as I can tell.
How do I update the firmware?
Follow-on question: In trying to search for this problem I came across release notes from 1.2.12, which says "5. Displayed how Decos are connected to each other." but I can't find this anywhere in the app. How do I access this info? The app really needs to expose more features and information.

Hello, the 1.2.13 is the first released firmware for Deco M9 plus which are newly made Decos coming off the factory line now. Compared to 1.2.12, there is no new features added, and the 1.2.12 does not support web UI, you do not have to upgrade it. Besides, the new firmware for Deco M9 plus V2 is under testing, you can keep an eye for the official website/ Deco app for more updates.
For the release note, I do not think it is V2 because it does not support this feature yet, instead, it should be V1.

I did it by/via just the main, but I have an easy/simple setup: 3 Deco M9 V2's
Others stated (in other threads') that they did it fully wireless (and even being connected via another than the main one ...)
I would go for safe if possible and use an UTP cable and plug in into the main Deco,
but no need to do them all individually.
BTW If you have a mixed set-up (combination of V1 and V2 devices or 'even' M5), other people state there is no need to unplug those. Again, I might not take those chances if not needed (how difficult could it be to temporary unplug the non-V2 devices), but everyone is free to choose for themselves, right ?
Succes.

@Kevin_Z @antch I have seen you say "there is no new features" added in replies to other people before, but why should I not be able to update the firmware to "Improve Wifi Stability"? This is almost exactly the scenario that happened in another thread where people with Deco M9 v2 couldn't update past 1.2.10. Honestly this is just embarrassing, how is there no way to update to an official firmware published to the product support page? The engineers need to get it together -- I don't understand why you would release another hardware revision of the M9 if you can't support it properly.

As I said before, the 1.2.13 is the original firmware, which means that the oldest firmware version supported is 1.2.13, and the Deco with firmware lower won't be able to update the firmware.
And considering the 1.2.12 does not support web UI, it would be very complicated to upgrade the firmware, which has no new feature added.
Is there any wifi stability issue happened yet? It is highly recommended to wait a while and get the latest official firmware.
Good day.

@Kevin_Z I don't think you're understanding what I'm trying to say. I have Deco M9 V2, the latest firmware for Deco M9 V2 is 1.2.13 -- therefore, I should be able to update my firmware to 1.2.13. Are you saying there is no way to update my firmware? When will TP-Link decide I'm allowed to?

@antch Exactly! I have just bought a Deco M9 plus V2 set (it says V2 on the bottom of the device) and it is running the .11 firmware. If you go to the support page you can download a firmware with version .13 and an instruction how to update this via the webinterface. There is no webinterface on the .11 neither do I know if there is one on the .13. But if there is a new version and I check in the app it should update, or TP Link does have a mechanism to roll this out in phases. Also possible that minor versions are not available for automatic updates. If that is the case then they should say so and why do you even post this version on the website if you can't update manually?
But telling that because there is no new functionality therefore there is no update and thinking that we as consumer accept this is an insult of every human with an IQ higher than 80.
So please TP Link, @Kevin_Z, tell us:
How does the update mechanism work and under what circumstances will we get an update if available? If this just takes a few weeks than just tell.

@JanSmets Just to set your expectations, I came across a thread a year ago about changing the Wifi channel on the app, and the response from support was "engineers will work on it". A YEAR AGO. I'd have to guess this is the most basic product on the market, with the least amount of R&D dedicated to post-sales support. I'm probably going to ditch and try something else.

Since two days now I experience instable WiFi connection. This new Deco (3 pack, V2) set is only one week old. It seems my Deco M9 Plus reboots about 3 times in 10 minutes (when I'm using MS Teams). I found on the official website of Deco that there is official a new firmware for Improved Wi-Fi stability.
