Will range extender increase or reduce network speed?

Model: RE220
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Some articles said that the speed of RE will be cut into a half, especiall single-band RE. Would you tell if this is the true?

and also, if I bought an RE with higher speed than the router, will it increase the network speed of the network?

Thanks!

@Cherish.Chen Yes, that's right.

RE needs to receive data from router then forward to the PC/client, and vice versa. And this can not happen at the same time. Wireless communication is half-duplex! And we can not change this, even with higher speed on RE than router.

But you can buy TP-Link extender and enable High speed mode, then the speed will be much better.

To get more on High speed, please refer to: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2479/

@Kevin_Z

But some said that dual-band RE can get around this because the dual-band RE can use different bands to communite with the router and our connected devices at the same time. So what is the fact?

Does it decrease 50%  or more speed?

@Kevin_Z

and as you mentioned, RE with High speed mode can improve the speed. What about APS? What's the difference and which one is better?
