Archer MR600(EU) V1 - BETA Firmware - Allowing selection of 4G+bands for Archer MR600 manually
Hi all,
Following the long thread on the same subject discssing the BETA FW, as I said I would, TPLink have given me permission to share the FW download llink.
From TPLink - We recently released a beta firmware for Archer MR600(EU) V1 which can allow us to select 4G+bands for Archer MR600 manually.
https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202004/20200420/Archer_MR600v1_1.1.0_0.9.1_[200417-rel75138]_up_boot_2020-04-20_08.44.31.zip
For Archer MR600, if you want to use its 4G+network, your SIM card should support the CA bands group Archer MR400 supports. Please check the attached picture and check if your SIM card supports the band groups on the list or not.
They asked me to state that, this BETA FW is for the Archer MR600(EU) V1 ONLY!
Neither TPLink nor me take any respnsbility if you flash a none-EU router.

@jrferreira BETA or not, I would rather have a better connection ;)

I image you'd also rather be able to flash the previous firmware in case TP-Link messed something else up in the process ;)
Still, glad to know it's working fine!

Hello
What is the algorithm for MR600 to choose bands? Does it use the higher band (potentially faster) until signal level is too low, then it switches to band 20? What happens if I set manually a band working well, but a day I switch on the router and that band is not available? The manual selection should be only a strong preference... A priority list would be useful.
Sometimes my router locks to
4G+, 25%, -117dBm, 1&7 bands, SNR: -2dB signals
and sometimes to
4G+, 100%, -87dBm, 20&7 bands, SNR: +14dB signals.
How does it choose? Does it use the weaker until it is OK, then it switches to the second, stronger but potentially slower? Or it uses the weaker signals because all the stronger band 20 is "sold out"?

@Datman No ideas from my end - I have been playing with the bands and cell towers all weekend! (Boring, I know) I can only get bands 3,3 working although I do have a 3,20 cell available that my phone with the same ee SIM connects to...
Speeds vary often.
Good luck..
** You will also see LTE 4G+ disconnections in the logs, that is also a known issue around non-static LTE IP addresses or something **

On saturday I made some tests: switching bands. Speed was about the same: 5~6Mbps, but with RSRP from -109 to -88dBm and intensity from 50 to 75%. S/N was good, from 10 to 14dB. Best bands were 1, 3, 7, 20. Today it is not the same: all bands have weaker signal and the best S/N is 0.8dB! The signal that saturday was the best, now is weak. In Auto mode, the router switches to band 3, with -112dBm and S/N 0.8dB.
It is not simple... I don't know the internal architecture. If the router has two independet receivers, it should do like car radios: from time to time, use the second receiver to test if there is a better signal on another band and, if it founds it, switch to that.

@Datman Strange, how far is your closest Cell?

@darant It could be that closer cells are full, then the router locks to a farther cell.

Hi guys,
here what I've experienced to: in italy we have lteitaly.it where you can check the closest towers and the one you are connecting to based on your provider. Once you get the tower you are connected to you know all the bands the tower supports and therefore the ones to play with.
After my tests I've figured out the strongest one and so in my case is the B7. All the others are weaker. So, I've find out that the best aggregation is B7,B3 (LTE+) but even if I use just B7 (LTE) the speed still good enough. The way around B3, B7 is weaker.
I hope my workprocess help someone.

she works perfectly for me !!!
I use B20 + B7 in the network of Austria A1.
hope the finished firmware will be released soon.
thank you
