Yeah, I too did not find any listing for Indian firmware version.

And also no mention of if anywhere that I could find either. 

Wondering if I have to upgrade to a custom firmware.

A bit disappointing as I have been using TP Link for a long time and never faced such issues with other routers.

Tp-link actually fraud their Indian customers just like made in china items. In their Archer C20 V5 quick installation guide their clearly give description about how to use Tether app for quick configuration. You can also check in their website also https://www.tp-link.com/in/support/download/archer-c20/

I am uploading the file where you see, how they are given wrong information to their customers. Right now they have no plan to introduce the Tether app compatibility with tp-link archer C20 V5.

Hi I have same issue,

The firmware version listed above doesn't seem to work with the Tether app.

Does the firmware needs to be upgraded or the Tether app doesn't support the firmware, which is the problem?
