Model: Archer VR600
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 0.3.0 0.9.1 v0074.0 Build 200226 RC.65147n

I have a VR600 modem router and wanted to purchase the AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 Router to use instead of the VR600 for the router functions and use the VR600 just at the modem only to connect to my ISP TalkTalk. I would prefer to use the VR600 as the modem as the connection with the FTTC has been stable with very few disconnections which I think the Broadcom chipset helps.

Does anyone know if this is possible to have the VR600 as a Modem only? My fibre broadband is with TalkTalk and this is the current setup;

Internet Connection Setup

DSL Modulation Type: VDSL

VLAN ID: 101

Internet Connection Type: Dynamic IP

IPv4: Enable

IP Address:

Subnet Mask: 255.255.240.0

Gateway:

Default Gateway:

ipoe_ptm_101_0_d

The only possible way I could think of by looking at the VR600 was to have the WIFI and DHCP turned off on the VR600 and connect a cat6 cable into the VR600 WAN port to the AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 Router but wasn’t sure with the DHCP off on the VR600 if that would assign a single IP address for AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 Router?

I wouldn’t want to have the AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 Router in AP mode as this would defeat the point of the router assigning IP addresses and amending QOS plus other features on the AX1500.

As advice or guidance would be great?

Thanks

@steven0151

Hi, you can make the VR600 to be a pure modem which connected to the TalkTalk by telephone line.

And connect the VR600's LAN to the AX1500's WAN port by CAT6 cable to set up the AX1500 as the wireless router.

Please follow the instruction to set up the VR600 to be bridge modem. https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2728/

If there is VLAN ID from the ISP, please enable VLAN ID and input the number from the ISP.

Then connect the two devices well and finish quick setup on the management page of the AX1500.

Note: You need to finish the configuration of the AX1500 and choose the connection type based on the ISP.
