Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 3.14.3 Build 151014 Rel.49676n

Hello!

I own a Archer C7 bought in the Netherlands at a physical store some 5 years ago (MediaMarkt) and use it succesfully in my home network, also in the Netherlands. Id like to upgrade firmware to stay as secure as possible. Howevers, it starts to puzzle me.

What I do see on my hardware:

What I do see when I log in onto the product:

Firmware Version:

3.14.3 Build 151014 Rel.49676n

Hardware Version:

Archer C7 v2 00000000

When I google my model I browse to https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/archer-c7/v2/#Firmware. This page (an US page according to the address) has this latest firmware https://static.tp-link.com/2018/201801/20180117/Archer%20C7(US)_v2_180114.zip for me. However, when I download and unzip I see a PDF (How to upgrade TP-LINK Wireless  N Router.PDF) which tells me I need to check my hardware version. My Archer C7 doesnt comply with the pictures I see.

When I go manually to webpage of TPLINK and browse my model I come here: https://www.tp-link.com/nl/support/download/archer-c7/#Firmware, which offers me new firmware for hardware version V2 too: https://static.tp-link.com/2018/201806/20180611/Archer%20C7(EU)_V2_180305.zip. Also a PDF is included, the same one as above, including a picture which shall be the same as I see on my product. This is not the same though.

I feel very stupid for not being able to sort this out myself, but with the current homeworking policy I really don't want to mess up my home network :)

Can anyone tell me which firmware is the correct firmware to use for my model?

Hello, sorry for any frustration caused by this firmware note.

Basically, we don't suggest customers upgrade the device firmware across regions and it will be against the warranty. A wrong firmware upgrade may damage your router or cause the router to not function properly.

If you are located in the Netherlands and this router is purchased in the local store, it should be an EU version and you can upgrade to the latest firmware on the TP-Link official website:

https://www.tp-link.com/nl/support/download/archer-c7/v2/#Firmware

Here is the guide to upgrade it:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2139/

May this helps.

@Kevin_Z

Thanks for quick reaction. When I download the firmware as per your link (https://static.tp-link.com/2018/201806/20180611/Archer%20C7(EU)_V2_180305.zip, to be exact) I notice the the document How to upgrade TP-LINK Wireless  N Router.pdf included. This document warns me on page one as follows:

Clearly, the picture shown in the PDF doesnt comply with what I see on my product, as posted in my openingspost. So although you suggest to use this firmware, the files itself suggest otherwise. So how should I interpret this?

Secondly, you assume my locally bought product is an EU version. I gladly believe you, but how can we verify? I'd say the serial number per my photo should be able to check that? Can you do that?

@SanderND

Hello,

Your router is an EU version, it was not labeled the region versions on that old hardware but we can confirm it for you.

The hardware version V2 and V2.0 are actually the same hardware, we generally update the package and product label to mark the package or production revision, the number after the period is usually due to a change in the display box or where the device came from.

Please refer to the instructions below to update it:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2139/

Good days.
