How do I transfer files to my HDD?

How do I transfer files to my HDD that is connected to my modem’s USB. I can see the HDD in VLC. At the moment there are no files on the drive. I would like to know how I can send files to it from my IPad.
The HDD is a 1Tb WD portable, and my modem is an Archer Vr1600v.

Thank you for your response @Sunshine , I will check out the options you have suggested, I was hoping there was a simple WiFi option I could use, that I might have missed.
