Model: Archer VR2800v
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.0 0.9.1 v006d.0 Build 180410 Rel.611

The router is set after optical terminal on fiberoptics line. Internet is through PPPoE.

I'm running a raspberry pi with pi hole as a DNS server. if I use Raspberry IP (192.168.1.225) as DNS in the DHCP server setting of the router it has no effect, it seems that the provider DNS servers are used in practice.

if I override the ISP provider's DNS servers from internet connection settings and use 192.168.1.225 the router crashes as it cannot manage having a DHCP client as DNS. During this also the default changes to 192.168.0.1.

How can I use raspberry pi as the only DNS server??

@leka21

Good day.

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Is there any special reason that you want to use the IP address of raspberry pi, instead of the default DNS server from the internet provider?

Normally, the WAN DNS server address is not allowed to be in the same subnet as the LAN IP address;

So you might have to change it under the DHCP.

Since it changes the DNS server In the LAN, it could not be noticed on the router’s web interface, only on the LAN Devices’ IP parameters.

(After changing the DHCP, the router also requires a reboot.)

Thank you very much.

@Sunshine Thank you for the reply. I'm running local DNS server in Pi Hole to avoid ads during browsing.
It seems that is working now, I'm not sure what has changed, I've tired same before.

Is there any chance the IP address pool range 192.168.1.100 to 199 was blocking 225 that was set on raspberry ?

Thanks again
