Time Machine issue with mixed Catalina(10.15) and Mojave(10.14) macOS systems

Model: Archer C4000
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.0.3 Build 20191026 rel.13901(5553)

I've been using the network Time Machine (TM) backups for a while with a few laptops running Mojave (10.14).  Recently, I added the TM drive to a new Catalina (10.15) system and it seems to have broken backups for all systems.  Upon connecting the drive to a system directly, it reports filesystem corruption that cannot be repaired.  I've had to reformat the drive to make it work again, but it breaks again once I add the new system.  I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this and if there's a possible solution.  I'm hesitant to upgrade the other systems in case it's an issue with Catalina compatibility and the current firmware/OS (C4000 looks like custom openwrt).

@vipool

Hello, thanks for reporting this issue to the community.

Is this new Catalina (10.15) system also connected to the C4000 by wireless? When it is connected, the TM stops responding? Can I have a screenshot when it shows the error?

What kind of drive is attached to the C4000? How many systems visit this backup in total, including the new Catalina (10.15) system? What if you remove the previous Mojave (10.14) systems first and only leave this Catalina (10.15), will there be the same issue?

Thanks a lot.

@Kevin_Z Thanks for the reply.

- The 10.15 is connected to the C4000 by wireless.

- Initially, TM responds.  After the 10.15 backup, TM fails across all devices.  Sorry, I don't have a screenshot at the moment and I don't want to invalidate the current 10.14 backups.  I'll try to run a test with a separate drive, but that may take me some time.  In a nutshell, the systems cannot reach the TM drive.

-  Backup drive is a portable Seagate USB3 5TB.

- 3 systems total when I had the Catalina (10.15) connected to TM.

- For just backing up the catalina (10.15) only, I'll need another drive for testing.  I want to say I did this test unintentionally the first time the issue came up because I added the 10.15 first.  I'll try to verify.
