Model: Archer C3150
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.1.0

So I set up my VPN server in my SOHO so I can access my openmediavault machine and files from on the go. I set up port forwarding on the router to forward a port to my VPN server ... as you would. After I set the ports I was able to try the setup from a remote connection and it all works fine. However, after a couple of hours (couldn't narrow it down more) the connection keeps failing. So I jump into my router configuration again and after I edit the port setup, it works again.

So it seems, that the port forwarding seems to stop working after a while ... did any of you experience similar behaviour and maybe offer some ideas? This makes my router kind of useless.

@Kevin_Z Thanks for the input. I think I found what caused this behaviour. I still had the OpenVPN option attached to the same port as I was trying to forward. So I disabled OpenVPN inside the router and it seems to be working since then.

@Gavin_152

Hello,

When the port forwarding stopped working, can you confirm if the forwarding rules were still listed correctly on its web interface?

BTW, what is the WAN IP address on the C3150, is it the public one or private? Could it be possible that the WAN IP address refreshed and you will lose the connection? You may try to set a DDNS on the C3150 to give it a go:

May this help.
