Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.4.7 Build 20200725 Rel. 63377

Hi all

Moved home, now on NBN in Australia and needed to change my router and extend my range.

I've set up my M5 trio, with one wired to my TP-Link router, and the other two in WiFi mesh.  I have a Synology NAS, which I've plugged into one of these two.  It was previously direct into my old router.

I can't see it on the Deco admin page, or the router's admin page at all - it's like it just isn't on the network.  So - no idea what it's IPv4 address is.

However - it has retained its old DNS name from my old setup - and I can ping it and get an IPv6 address - not much use to me in a browser though.  Interestingly, my old drive share is still working - I guess because this uses some Microsoft protocol.  But what I can't do, is log into the NAS web portal - I need an IP address for that, and the DNS name is not working.

Would be very grateful for any advice on how to get an IPv4 address for the NAS.

Hi,

According to the pic you attached, it seems that the Deco is working as a router and it is assigning IPv4 address for the LAN devices, while the 192.168.1.23 is not in the IP range of the router, so there might be an issue accessing it locally.

You may try to change the IPv4 address on your NAS to 192.168.68.23 to give it a go.

If the WAN IPv4 address is not in the 192.168.1.x range on the Deco, you may change the LAN IP address of the Deco to 192.168.1.1 as an alternative if you cannot do it on your NAS.

May it help.

Hi, is the Synology NAS using a static IPv4 address? If it is using a static IPv4 address, it won't show up on the Deco app.

You may try to disable the IPv6 connection on your PC and try to ping the NAS'DNS name, show us the ping result.

Thanks.

Thanks for the response.

Yes - it has to have a static IP.  I can live with it not showing up, although it would be good if this could be fixed at some point.

Here is my before- and after disabling IPv6 on a Windows 10 pc:

@Cobbnut

Hello,

Is the IPv4 address of the NAS 192.168.1.23? Is the Deco working as an AP or router? How about other devices in the network, are they getting the same IPv4 address as 192.168.1.x?

Thanks.

@TP-Link_Deco

Yes it is 192.168.1.23 and the Deco is in router mode - which I assume is the appropriate mode and was out-of-the-box.

Here's my PC's config

@TP-Link_Deco

A quick note of thanks for this - reading through your post made me realise that the Deco actually has its own address range of 192.168.68.x - I hadn't spotted this.  I plugged the NAS into the router, logged in and changed it to dynamic, then plugged it into the Deco, logged in and changed it back to statis - with its new IP address.  Then it was just a matter of reconviguring my various services - and since your tp-link equipment seems much happier using the router's friendly name, I've changed most fixed references to that, rather than the IP address.

Thanks again!
