Device not connecting to the nearest/fastest Deco M5
Hi,
I recently purchased 2 units of Deco M5. I live in a 1860 sq.ft apartment. Both the Decos are present in the same floor. I see that my devices are NOT connected to the closest Deco and connected to the farthest Deco most of the times. This causes a considerable reduction in speed and it defeats the very purpose of installing a mesh.
To TP-Link R& D Team - Either improvise your algorithm to find the nearest Deco and connect seemlessly or let the user select the Deco M5 unit to which the device has to get connected to.
Please provide me with any known solution/workaround to overcome this issue temporarily.
Rgds,
Priya

@TP-Link i have installed 3 deco m5 and my iphone android or tablet dosent automatically connect to the closest one. They seem to stay with the first one they connect to even if the signal drops to -85db. I put the phone on top of Deco no 2 and it still stayed connected to Deco 1 at -85. Seems like a total waste as i bought them for house coverage. You can swnd me the test firmware and i will test it for.you..

i will forward this thread to ziggo, since they do commercials for promoting this crap.

Hi, I am really sorry that I did not check this post on time;
Here is the beta firmware:
https://static.tp-link.com/beta/2021/202102/20210207/Deco_M5_1.5.1_Network_Map_Optimization_Log.zip
how to update the firmware:
https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202012/20201207/Documentation for upgrading Deco system.pdf
And the official firmware 1.6.0 for Deco M5 would be released very soon which allows us to manually select the signal source;
You would also wait for a while for the new firmware release;
Thank you very much.

We have the beta firmware for M4 as well.
There would also be official firmware 1.6.0 for Deco M4 and it would just take much longer than the M5;
Thank you.

@TP-Link_Deco I am having the same issue and I am about ready to toss these damm things in the garbage. One of the worst purchases I have ever made. Phones connect great to the closest deco. My Smart TV has been made almost useless by these. I have the main deco that is connected to my router not 5 feet away from the TV and it constantly connects to the master bedroom. I disconnect the TV and reconnect, it connected to the main deco but only for a short time.
I bought 3, and hooked up all 3 with one connect via ethernet to my ATT router. The other 2 were placed in different areas of my house, which is just over 3500 sq ft. When all 3 Decos are connected, my connections are 10x worse so I unplugged one and have a better, yet still very poor connection.
I have TP Link smart plugs and bulbs all around my house. This one issue has me wanting to throw every TP Link device I own in the garbage and buy all new stuff. Not that it matters to you all as a company, I've already paid for them 🤬
If it cannot be smart enough to figure out what's closer, then let me do it for it. When my laptop and TV connect to the master bedroom, they have just one bar. When I can get them connected to the main deco, they have full bars.

Hi, There would be a new firmware 1.6.0 released for Deco M5 very soon which could allow us to choose clients to connect to the specific Deco;
And based on your description, setting up Deco M5 as an access point might be a better choice;
Thank you very much.
