Model: Archer C6
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

Hello,

So, last night the Wi-Fi provided by my Archer C6 suddenly stopped. After opening the router config page I saw that there was a new update for the router. I updated it and almost everything went back to normal. The only issue I'm having is that im experiencing some high ms/lag spikes while playing various games. The ping stays at normal (about 50ms) and every 2-3 seconds it spikes up to 200ms (sometimes more) for about a second or two and then it goes back down again and this cycle repeats constantly.

The overall internet is is not weak/slow. I tried running a couple of ms/ping tests from websites and all of them show that the ping is normal. The issue started since the router update so I'd guess it's something caused by it and not the internet provider.

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and can anyone help me on resolving it? Thank you.

Update: I talked with my internet provider and had them check the connection and they confirmed that the connection on their side is perfect so the issue is from my side (the router).

Hello,

May I have your current network topology/layout? Who is your ISP and what kind of modem are you using?

How did you test the high ms/lag spikes issue? Can we have some test screenshots?

How many devices are connected to the C6 network? Are all of them experiencing the same high ms/lag spikes issue? Are they connected to the 2.4GHz or 5GHz?

If the C6 is the main router in your network, please try to change the DNS settings on it to a third-party one such as Google's DNS server 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, reboot the C6 and computer then monitor again.

Thanks~

Hello,

  • So physically the router is at about a meter away from my PC but it's on the other side of a wall (the router was right next to the PC while I was performing the tests shown below). The Archer C6 is the one and only router in the network. Connected to it are only 1 PC and 1 phone (both wirelessly). The PC is connected to 2.4GHz while the phone is at 5GHz. I'm not sure about the modem as it's not in my apartment and it's provided by the ISP. My ISP is DCCorporation (Cifrova Kabelna Korporacia EOOD). Router's firmware is 1.3.6 Build 20200902 rel.65591(4555).
  • It feels like the spikes are very rare and you can't really feel them when browsing websites. However they make games unplayable.
  • Most internet ping tests can't even catch the spikes and show the latency is normal. However, here is a test that does:

  • Here is another screenshot of me pinging the IP of a game I'm playing (there are no packets lost):
  • I tried changing the DNS to the one you showed but there was no change.
  • I tried connecting the internet cable directly into the PC and it worked fine without spikes so the spikes surely come from the router.
  • As I mentioned, the issue occurred after a router update I had and it was working perfectly before it. Is there a way to revert it?

Thank you
