I am setting up a new plug and connecting it to my amazon echo. The device will work for something simple like a phone charger but if I connect my kettle it won't turn it on. Please can you advise

Have you checked if the kettle is overload?
And did the kettle need the second turn-on after power-up, like a remote controller for the TV?
