Deco option to enable ping responses?
Deco option to enable ping responses?
Since using a Deco as a router, connected to my Virgin Media Hub 3.0 in modem mode, I have been unable to track performance via a Broadband Quality Monitor.
I've looked everywhere in the App but can't see an option to turn on ping responses.
Would've thought it was a standard feature of routers, but is it in fact the case that on Deco M4s this is off by default - and there's no way to turn ICMP on?

Just to verify, do you mean you want to allow the ping from WAN? If that is what you need, we may say sorry as this is not allowed on the current firmware.
Is this Broadband Quality Monitor on the outside network or It is on the Virgin Media Hub 3.0?
The option to allow the ping from WAN side will be added soon on the new 1.5.0 version, please keep an eye on your Deco app in case there is an update, thanks.

As far as I know, the IPv6 address with the fe80 prefix can only communicate in the local network, and it won't communicate over the LAN, which means you cannot ping the fe80 prefix address from the outside network.
The address with the 2001 prefix is the one that communicates over the internet, so you can ping it from the outside, but don't worry as there is an IPv6 firewall on the Deco which you can enable to block the external access.

@TP-Link_Deco Yes, as I understand it, the BQM sends ICMP echo requests to a router’s WAN port. When the Virgin hub acted as the router, I had a detailed latency graph every day, but with the Deco as router it’s all red (dropped packets).

BTW, is there any issue with the internet connection since it’s all red (dropped packets) on the BQM?

Though the family member whose video calls were disrupted, moved out before I set up the mesh network.

Hi, can you please explain what do you mean by support ICMPv6 (on client side)? Actually, the Deco M4 supports ICMPv6/IPv6 feature already, you may refer to the below guide to configure it:

While if you refer to the block WAN ping feature for the IPv6, it is not supported on the current firmware. We will keep recording this kind of request and feedback to the developer, they will evaluate if this can be achieved on the future firmware.

I can ping6 the "public" IPv6 address of the Deco M5 that it got from the ISP. But client's "local" IPv6 address (using DHCPv6/stateful) is not reachable from the internet (tested using ping6)

@TP-Link_Deco Hi I'm sorry may be I shouldn't use "local" term, my bad. The M5 and clients get the global/public IPv6. For example the M5 as a router get
2404:8000:1004:1005::1001, and one client get 2404:8000:1004:1005::1002 ip address.
2404:8000:1004:1005::1001 is reachable from the internet (ping6), while the 2404:8000:1004:1005::1002 can't. Tried looking at Advanced > IPv6 > Firewall, but there is no ICMP.
--edit:
I'm able to use any service/port number, for example 22 for SSH and I'm able to SSH into my macbook from the internet, but still no luck for ICMP (tried port 1).
On a side note, I'm aware there is DDNS client in the app/Deco (*.tplinkdns.com) but seems like it's IPv4 only. That would be good if there is an option to enable it on IPv6 address. Thank you.
