Model: TL-WA850RE
Hardware Version: V7
Firmware Version: 1.0.1 Build 200731 Rel.64443n

Hi. I need some help and I been through various posts on this community and the issue in not solved.

Home Router: Virgin Hub 4

  1. WA850RE connected to the router easily. 5 lights when within 5 feet ot router
  2. Moved to different room. Still 5 lights and location assistant says "Perfect signal"
  3. Wireless negotiation speed is 104 Mbps

Using Speed Test

1) Connection to Virgin Router directly: 219 Mbps down / 15 Mbps up

2) Via WA850RE - 5.77 down and 9.1 up

3) Via WA850RE - 5.21 down and 10.2 up  (when located within 5 feet of router)

I have tried changing the channels on the router. No noticeable difference.

Wondering if this product just does work well with the Virgin Hub 4??

@Simon777

Good day,

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Have you tested the wired connection speed on the laptop to see how much about the Ethernet speed?

As for the TL-WA850RE, it provides 300Mbps wireless associated speed and 300Mbps needs to be used to communicate with Virgin and PC that linked to the range extender; Therefore, data from router to PC passes through the WA850RE first and WA850RE needs to “receive” data from the router then “send” it to PC. Due to the half-duplex system, “receive” and “send” cannot be carried out simultaneously. In that case, the PC will get half of the speed.

So If wireless negotiation speed on PC is 300Mbps, then the maximum negotiation speed will be cut to 150Mbps on each side, and the final internet download speed will be cut down to 75Mbps due to communication loss. In other words, if a customer uses a 300Mbps range extender, the speed-test result on a PC that linked to the RE will be about 75Mbps.

And if you just bought the 850RE, it might not a suitable model for you and you could consider our dual-band range extender, like RE650, or RE305;

Thanks a lot for your understanding and support.
