Model: Archer A8
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I encountered a strange issue with a newly bought Archer A8 router, with which I would be amazingly happy to get some help :(

As soon as I started to use this router, each ~30 minutes the connection just drops for five minutes or more. First, I blamed it on the provider, however we tried a five-year-old TP Link - and it works as it should be, with no drops

What is really strange, though, is how Archer A8 behaves, when it drops the connection:

1. On a fiber converter in the room, the LAN light is constant, is not blinking, which means that the LAN connection is established - but no data is being transferred

2. All lights on the router are on

3. When removing all LAN cables from the router - the lights are still on, as if it just glitched

4. Provider confirmed that when the network is dropped - the connection from the router itself stops, while all other connections before the router are working

Right now I have no idea what to do, and I don't understand whether it is something that can be fixed, or I should just return the router to the service and get my money back

Does anyone, maybe, have an idea about this situation?

Thank you!

Hello, thanks for reporting the issue to the community, can I have more details then our engineers can try to investigate further?
1. How many devices connected to the A8 network, wired and wirelessly? Are all devices disconnected from the internet?
2. How about the internet LED on the A8? Is it orange or green?
3. Who is your ISP? Are you saying the LAN LED on the A8 is on even though there is no cabled plugged in? Are you able to see or connect to its wireless network at that time?

4. Try to reset it to factory defaults by pressing the reset button until all the lights flashes, then set up the internet again.

5. Ensure the router firmware is up-to-date.

@Kevin_Z Thank you for the reply!

1. From 1 up to 3. If the glitch happens - all of them become offline

2. The "Wi-Fi" light is orange, all others (power, LAN, 2.4G, 5G) - are green

3.1. The provider is "Briz" - a Ukrainian provider from Odesa city.

3.2. Yes, I have checked it again - while the glitch is ongoing, removing all cables (including the main one from the blue socket) does not affect the lights. The lights change only after some time, presumably once the glitch is gone. It's like the router at this point is simply stuck

3.3. Yes, during the glitch I cannot connect to the router also through Wi-Fi. What is strange, is that during this time I cannot even access the router settings through the cable

4. Tried - did not help

5. Updated to the latest firmware through Tether app - did not help

The older TP-Link router still works with no issues, on the same network :(

@Andrii9960

Hello, thanks for the detailed info. May I know when did you buy this Archer A8? Is it behaving like this when you just installed it in the network? If this issue happened when you just bought it, it is suggested to contact the local tech support to check the warranty:

@Andrii9960

I see, sorry for the trouble caused by the router, while I think you can get it replaced with the reseller easily since you just bought it a week.

Please let know if there is anything we can do, thanks.
