Model: RE650
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

I've recently run Ethernet to an RE650 extender in a hallway so it is now configured in Access Point mode (and got rid of the weak security issue as well).  I also happen to have an unused Archer 2300 router in a closet.  I was wondering if the Archer 2300 in Access Point mode would provide better Wifi performance than the RE650?   The RE650 is rated AC2600 vs AC2300 for the router, and it has 4 antennas vs 3 but I'm thinking the router may have better hardware and features to handle more clients.    The datasheets are summarized below but other than the signal rate I don't really know how to compare the rest of the specs and what to expect in reality.

I RE650 Datasheet has:

Signal Rate: 800Mbps at 2.4GHz, 1733Mbps at 5GHz ·

Transmit Power:

CE: <20dBm(2.4GHz),<23dBm(5GHz), FCC: <27dBm(2.4GHz), <25dBm(5GHz)

Reception Sensitivity:

5GHz: 11a 6Mbps: -96dBm, 11a 54Mbps: -78dBm 11ac HT20: -69dBm, 11ac HT40: -66dBm 11ac HT80: -63dBm

2.4GHz: 11g 54Mbps: -79dBm, 11n HT20: -77dBm 11n HT40: -74dBm

While the Archer 2300 has:

Signal Rate: 1625Mbps at 5GHz, 600Mbps at 2.4GHz ·

Transmit Power: CE: <13.5dBm(2.4GHz), <16.5dBm(5GHz) FCC: <25dBm(2.4GHz), <24dBm(5GHz) ·

Reception Sensitivity:

5GHz: 11ac80M MCS11: -58dBm, 11ac80M MCS0: -88dBm 11ac40M MCS11: -61dBm, 11ac40M MCS0: -91dBm 11ac20M MCS11: -63dBm, 11ac20M MCS0: -95dBm 54M: -76dBm, 6M: -95dBm

2.4GHz: 11n40M MCS9: -63dBm, 11n40M MCS0: -89dBm 11n20M MCS8: -67dBm, 11n20M MCS0: -92dBm 54M: -75dBm, 11M : -90dBm, 6M: -93dBm, 1M: -98dBm

@Tailspin

Good day.

As for the data sheet of the wireless parameters, the wireless link speed on the RE650 would be a little bit better than Archer C2300.

For the rest of them, due to CE certification, they are almost the same.

And after setting up them as the access point, the support clients would be almost the same since it would be the router to deal with DHCP.

As for the Archer C2300, once it is on the access point, you would still have 4 Ethernet LAN ports left for other wired laptops; while for RE650, there would be no more Ethernet connection.

Thank you very much.
