how did you test that ? the specific result ?

In the router GUI, there is a diagnostic menu and you can select a test. Chosen the Internet surfing test.
Test Internet surfing
Test xDSL Synchronization Pass
ATM OAM Segment Ping Pass
ATM OAM end to end Ping Pass
Test DHCP Server's connection Pass
Test the assigned IP address Pass
Ping default gateway Pass
Ping primary Domain Name Server Pass
Test DNS Root Fail
Network Connection Status Inspect(NCSI) Pass
Diagnostics completes




I'm on a TD-W8980

I get this too. Sometimes it passes.

It's low priority at the moment as I lose all DNS after a while!

I have a similar problem.

My router model is "TD-W8970 v1 00000000" .
My firmware version is "0.6.0 2.1 v000c.0 Build 130415 Rel.34164n" .

When i try to pass the tests in the "diagnostics" section, all tests pass except two:
- Test DNS Root
- Network Connectivity Status Inspect (NCSI)

... any idea to solve it? That's a router fault? or an ISP fault?

I have similar issues. My diagnostic also fail on the "Test DNS root" option, everything else passes.

I get time out issues on many websites. This occurs on multiple devices on my network, some Desktop PCs, Linux and Windows, some Android devices.

If I use a proxy service, all the issues go away, so it's definitely related to either the router, configuration/performane or my ISP's DNS.

I'd appreciate any tips on what to look at next.

Please describe exactly this issues? Do you have problem with internet access in all devices in same time? What kind of DNS addresses do you have in DHCP Settings?

My DNS adresses are blank, so I'm passing on my router's IP as the DNS entry. As shown, my PC is showing my router as it's DNS. behaviour is variable.

As to failures, for example, a notification icon may show in a site such as Facebook, but clicking on the link never resolves to the list of messages. Another common example is the comment pages below a website's main article failing to load (for example, disqus). Earlier today I couldn't download videos from Coursera.org to my android tablet.
