Archer c6 v2 5ghz drops after 2 minutes
Hi,
On my new Archer C6 EU v2, 5GHz wifi band always drops after 2 minutes.
I tried several official firmwares 1.3.5 1.3.6 and also latest beta 20201030 60104 seen in the pinned post.
I tried:
* smart connect on and off
* same and different ssid for 2.4 and 5ghz band
* disable and enable qos
* enable and disable openmesh
* setting 5ghz channel width to 80 and channel to 40, auto modes not solve the problem
When router starts, 5ghz band is visible and my phone can connect. After 2 to 4 minutes, revert to 2.4ghz because 5ghz ssid disappears. Speedtests gives me 300/300 on 5ghz and 60/60 on 2.4ghz, confirming the 5ghz band is really off.
Only solution is reboot the router, but fives me 5ghz band only for two minutes.
When smart connect is enabled, all devices go from 5ghz to 2.4ghz very quick.
Around 15 wireless devices in the house.
2.4ghz band is reliable... but slower...
Any idea to get a stable 5ghz band? Except returning the router to amazon?
Thanks

Hi, the issue seems quite interesting. As per your description, it seems that the 5GHz band only visible in the first 2-5mins when the router restarted, it then will disappear, am I right? No devices can see it?
Have you tried to reset the C6 to factory defaults, then reconfigure it from scratch after upgrading to the beta firmware? If not, give it a try.
You may also change the 5GHz settings as this: choose security as WPA/WPA2- personal, Version:WPA2-personal, AES; Channel 36/44; channel width 40MHz, then reboot the C6 to confirm.
BTW, how many devices are requiring to connect to the C6 5GHz network?

Already tried all of that, still the same.
You described the problem properly, 5ghz band just disappear after a while. Can be 5 minutes, can be 20...
Yesterday I was able to do 5 speed tests in 5ghz, and 15 mins later, back to 2.4ghz.
All devices affected at the same time. Total of 10-15 devices, usually half of them are 5ghz compatible and connect to 5ghz on router startup.
Note that my main internet box has wifi disabled. Archer C6 handles wifi and dhcp.

One more confirm, do you mean when all the 5G capable devices can no longer see the 5G signal from the C6 after they switch to the 2.4G automatically? Please install a Wi-Fi analyzer on one of these 5G devices, check if the 5G signal is still broadcasting on the C6, thanks.
You can also try to install the beta firmware, and disable the Onemesh on the C6, then check if the issue persists:

Wifi analyzer confirms that on router startup, I can see bith 2.4G and 5G bands.
After 10 minutes, 5G band is not visible any more. Same device, same room. 5G band is not broadcasted any more.
Same on all other devices.
Beta firmware installed, onemesh disabled.

Thanks a lot. Better hurry though, 12 days from now is my deadline to send the unit back to the reseller...

@Levente_Szabo i finally returned it for cashback without the hassle to giving remote control to tp-link support to troubleshoot the issue.
Should work out of the box.

Hi, may I have the current firmware version on the Archer C6? If you want to troubleshoot with the support engineers, we would like to escalate the case as well.
