Model: TL-WN881ND
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

ping spikes at regular intervals of ~10 secs.

had the adapter for almost a month now, issue only started maybe 2-3 days ago.

performed the following troubleshooting steps so please don't tell me to do these things again:

  • driver installed is latest from tp-link support site: https://static.tp-link.com/2018/201802/20180207/TL-WN881ND_V2_180118_Win.zip
  • tried fix from this post: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/111335
  • regular browsing and video streaming is ok, but playing online games isn't.
  • tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, tried clean install of windows (windows 10), issue persists.
  • other devices in the network are working fine.
  • no issue when connected via ethernet.
  • tried different adapter from another PC and no ping spikes.
  • installed this TL-WN881ND on another PC and got ping spikes there too.

issue is clearly with this wireless adapter.

please advise on how to fix.

Edit: Found posts about windows scanning for wifi in the background every 10 secs and disabling wlan autoconfig fixes the issue.

 It did not in my case.

May I have the model number of the wireless router? Have you tried to change the wireless settings on it, such as changing the wireless channel and channel width, security? Give it a go, then confirm.

BTW, you may try to remove the existing driver, install the latest public driver on the Windows 10, then check again:
https://static.tp-link.com/2019/201911/20191129/TL-WN881ND V2 windows 10 RTL driver 2024.0.4.208.zip

You may remove all the other drivers for this adapter on the computer, then install the above driver manually:

Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply. I have a Deco M5 router and I dont really see any way of changing settings on it.

I've also tried the driver that you linked, along with the following drivers:

  • TL-WN881ND_EU_US_V2_170724_Wins
  • TL-WN881ND_V2_180118_Win
  • RTWLANE_Driver

All drivers I've removed before trying the next one, with no improvement on the ping spike. I also tried just using Windows' default adapter and the only difference is that it had less options in the advanced adapter settings.

Hope to hear back from you soon.

@wtfevenisthis

Thank you very much for getting back.

Is there any other wireless network to test the adapter? Just to verify if there is something to do with the mesh network.

BTW, the tech team was made aware of your issue. They will likely reach out to you via email to continue to troubleshoot your issue.

@Kevin_Z

Sorry, no other network to test on.

Other devices on same network doesn't have the issue so I don't see how the network would be the problem.

Basic troubleshooting like restarting the Deco, resetting to factory settings, updating to latest firmware has also been done. Internet speed is at 100 Mbps up/down, if that is relevant. No ping spike when connected via ethernet.

Thank you for trying to work on this with me. Looking forward to hearing from the tech team.
