Model: Archer C6U
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.2 Build 20200630 rel.53829(4555)

Hello,

few months ago i bought Archer C6U 1200 MU-MIMO and i was using a broadband speed of 100 Mbit. Everything was fine.

Today i move up to 1Gbit broadband and i have the "half speed" issue over Wi-Fi.

Over the 2,4GHz frequency, the speed (numbers are rounded) is at:

1) Laptop (Windows) - 80 down and 90 up

2) Phone (iOS) - 40 down and 50 up

3) mac Mini (Late 2012) - 80 down and 0 up

Over the 5GHz frequency, the speed (numbers are rounded) is at:

1) Laptop (Windows) - can't connect to it...because of reasons...few days ago i was capable of doing it, but mainly i use the 2,4GHz on the laptop....anyway, i gave up on it.

2) Phone (iOS) - 220 down and 200 up

3) mac Mini (Late 2012) - 180 down and 220 up

Over cable connection on the laptop, i get 940 down and 960 up without the router being connected anywhere.

Using a cable connection through the routers LAN ports the speed is 890 down and 940 up.

I used the same cable (cat 5e) which is comming out from the modem/media coverter, just to drop the possibility of the cable to be te issue.

I've tried variaty of channels (1,2,6,11,36,44,48)/channel widths(20,40,80)/modes(b, g, n, ac..) with different encryptions for both of the 2,4GHz and 5GHz networks and i can't say that there was a change at all.

My Internet Port Negotiation was set to Auto Negotiation as default, but i did change it to 1000 full duplex and still no change.

I saw different posts on the forum from people having the same issue but on differet devices. I have tried some of the proposed solutions (which were mainly the things i already tried), but still no change.  I did like the idea of changing to beta firmware, but i don't know from where to get it for my device.

Currenty im losing brain cells and i can't think of trying something else...im at the point where "its maybe the firmware or maybe the device is faulty".

Anyone actually stumble upon a fix regarding this issue?

@schweepps

Please show us the link speed on the devices that connected to the C6U 2.4G or 5G network, you can check it as this if it is a computer:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2265/

Please verify that your client device actually supports dual-stream (2×2) and 40MHz channel width operation. To do this you need to check on the client device if it reports a connection speed of 300Mbps (or at least something between 200-300 Mbps) when connected to the 2.4G network, and 867Mbps when connected to the 5G. How you check that depends on the operating system of the client device. For example, on Android you will probably need to install an additional App to get the connection speed.

You are suggested to update the driver of the wireless card on this laptop as well. If it is a phone, please also update to the latest version, thanks.

@Kevin_Z sorry for the late response.

Currently, these are my router settings:

Im using the latest available firmware.

On the MacOS machine (Mac Mini Late 2012) i don't know how to check if the built-in network adapter supports dual-stream.

On forums, people are reporting for having at least 500 Mbps on 5G wi-fi networks. Anyway...here are screenshots:

On my laptop (Windows machine) im currently having issues, so i can't give a reliable information regarding it.

But anyway...after some Windows Update (a week or two ago) my issues:

1) i can't connect to my wi-fi networks (2G or 5G), however i can connect to the guest networks (2G...i haven't tried 5G)

2) My network adapter only recognize 100 Mbit, regardless of the fact that it support 1Gbit.

My laptop is - HP Elitebook 840 G2 / Wi-Fi card - Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265

https://i.ibb.co/BffHz5X/1gb.png - advanced settings on the network adapter
https://i.ibb.co/FD28gqM/linspeed.png - link speed on 2G guest wi-fi

Again, this is not reliable information, since my issues after the updates...i need to make a clean install of windows. I can't take it anymore with these Microsoft shenanigans.

My ISP is offering me UP to 950 Mbps up and down (minimal ~200 Mbps / average ~700 Mbps).

My router is like 2 meters away from the MacOS machine (no walls or metal objects are in the way).

@schweepps

Do you mean you have updated the C6U firmware to the latest now? Please confirm if it is on the 201230 version, if not, please update it first:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/archer-c6u/#Firmware

If the firmware is up-to-date, while the wireless speed is still not good, please reset the C6U to factory defaults, then reconfigure it from scratch, leave all the settings by default, just set up the internet access on it, then monitor again if you can get a normal speed.

@Kevin_Z

Yes, im using the latest firmware since it was released.

https://i.ibb.co/FhX5KYy/firmware.png

Here are my speed results (with link speeds) after factory reset (i made a normal factory reset-soft, after that...just to be sure...made a reset through the button-hard):

5G:

https://i.ibb.co/hfjgLdM/5g-1.png
https://i.ibb.co/Rc6ynTB/5g-2.png

2G
https://i.ibb.co/6FG65hT/2g-2.png
https://i.ibb.co/mTnw9Vr/2g-1.png

The only thing i changed during the setup was to remove the checkbox on "Smart Connect", so i could have access to both 5g and 2g separately.

This is how the settings looks like after the reset:

https://i.ibb.co/ckT9QTS/5g.png
https://i.ibb.co/L5FdVsj/2g.png

My laptop still can't connect to any of these two networks..but this is certainly Windows and a driver related problem (i haven't reinstall the OS yet). Just giving the info, since i did include it in my previous post.

Edit: Only the Mac Mini was connected wirelessly to the router during the speed test.
