RE220 - 2.4ghz range has died

I was quite happily having my router running with two separately named networks for 2.4 and 5. Most things were connected to 2.4. Yesterday, randomly, 2.4 stopped working. You can connect but it has no internet.

I reset everything and ran all the normal diagnostics. I then tried merging the two into one wifi network only for 2.4 and 5. This works, but if I disable the 5 band, it dies again - you can connect but it has no internet. So even when both are merged into one, only 5 ghz works.

This is the RE220.

Any thoughts on what I can do to get the 2.4 to work?

@Daniel1  Did RE220 connect to your main router by Wi-Fi or by Ethernet cable?  This probably cased a congested 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi channel on main router.

Please try a different a wifi channel on  main router like channel 1,6,11 and see if that helps.

Here is the latest firmware for RE220 and make sure firmware is up to date:  https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/re220/#Firmware

If still no luck, may I know did any  WiFi Led went off when issue happened? When Re's 2.4Ghz wifi connected no Internet,  please  check  IP address, default gateway and share a photo here, thank you.  https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-838.html

@Solla-topee there are many five things connected to 2.4 in total so not exactly congested to be honest.

All lights are still green.

It is connected by WiFi.

The tether app says I have the latest version and need no updates.

As a side note, without disabling 5.0 ghz, how can I test if 2.4 has magically come back to life and works, or if it is still dead with the internet? Is there any way to check?

@Daniel1  Hello, thank you for your valuable information!

On Tether app main page, you could edit Wi-Fi name of extender, and set up different Wi-Fi names for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz (disable "smart connect " if there is any)

On tether app, tap the icon of " Range extender" and you will see its Firmware version (Build number) and hardware version.

For " congested channel"  I mean you neighbors may use the same 2.4Ghz channel so you could try to change a different Wi-Fi channel for main Router.

You could download Wi-Fi analyzer APP and find a relevant " idle" 2.4Ghz channel for main router.

I've emailed you to follow up your case, please check your inbox, thank you!

This issue started when the two networks were separate, so I have only just merged them now in an attempt to fix the problem. It happened out of the blue a few days ago. I bought it only a few weeks ago.

The 2.4ghz wifi from the main router is working fine.

How can I check if the 2.4ghz extender is working now (or not still) without splitting the two networks again?
