Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.4.3 Build 20200921 Rel. 42500

Hi everyone,

Deco M9 Plus user since a few weeks.

Main Deco unit is connected to my provider modem via ethernet cable. 3 other Deco units in the house. About 7 WIFI connected clients work fine and at lightning speed

However my NAS is connected to main Deco unit via ethernet cable.

My NAS is an Asustor 302T with dual harddisks setup in RAID 2 mirror mode.

Can't "see" my NAS, can't connect via "old" IP address, Can't retrieve it's "new"  IP address, which I suspect is causing this issue.

The NAS should have a fixed (not dynamic IP) as I am accessing it via IP networkmapping on my laptop.

Struggling with this for weeks, and unable to access my NAS files, any help appreciated !

Kind regards, C.

Problem is solved ->

1/ I put my DECO system in AP mode (Access Point) in stead of Router

2/ I reset my internet provider modem

3/ I reset NAS

Indeed my NAS has now a different IP than before.

Thanks for help and advice, it has put me on the right track and I've learned something smiley

Kind regards,

C.

@Cobretti302

Hi, will you be able to see NAS as one of the online clients on the Deco APP?

As for the static IP address, have you checked whether it is within the Deco DHCP server IP range;

And were you able to ping the current IP address of the NAS on the computer?

Thank you very much.

@TP-Link

Thanks for the quick response so far !  I like that :)

Hi, will you be able to see NAS as one of the online clients on the Deco APP?

> Currently it's not listed as one off the 'on-line' devices.  It's listed as an off-line device

As for the static IP address, have you checked whether it is within the Deco DHCP server IP range;

> No, I'm lacking the knowledge how to check this, but If you can teach/tell me how, I'll do it.

And were you able to ping the current IP address of the NAS on the computer?

> No

> However I've updated the Asustor Control Center app on my laptop, it somehow finds my NAS, shows the NAS specs and even the IP address.  This IP is the same as from the past 4 years. Also it shows the NAS status as "Not ready".  This seems very odd, as all looks fine on the NAS device itself.  The LEDs that should confirm it's ready and working are on.  I have no reason to believe the NAS is faulty, my best guess is still an IP address conflict resulting in a NAS status "Not ready"...

Thanks for help and feedback,

C.

@Cobretti302

To fix this issue permanently, the first step should be to configure NAS request dynamic IP address. If you remember how you configured it with static IP before you had Decos, that might help.

I am not familiar with that type of NAS, so you have to refer to its User Manual, but getting IP address dynamically is the basic functionality of any networking device and should have been set by default in  Asustor 302T when you bought it. Whatever changes you've made to set it with static IP address before you got Decos - you'll need to roll them back.

Also, perhaps a silly question but nevertheless: have you rebooted  Asustor 302T after you connected it to Main Deco? In fact, I actually mean shutting it down, unplugging power cable from the electric outlet, waiting 1-2 minutes, plugging it back and then powering it on. That type of reboot.

If not - you should.

After you've managed to make  Asustor 302T properly join Deco network, with IP address from Deco provided range and NAS visible in the list of Network Devices as Active, the rest will be easy. Just follow How to configure Address Reservation with Deco? to make new IP address of NAS persistent and mount laptop to folders at that new IP address.

@Alexandre.

Many thanks for this explanation Alexandre !  It truly makes sense.

I did a full restart of the NAS a few times disconnecting electrical power.  (I connected it to my different Deco units over the past weeks just to test if it would work, but no luck off course)

A dynamic IP address being the basic setting for every device is new and interesting info for me.

I don't remember changing this in the past, but I do remember it was a struggle tweeking with parameters to get it working to my liking.  I'm far from the die-hard network specialist :)

As I'm not able to change anything on the NAS (I only have basic read-only info in the NAS software), I'll try a full reset by which I'm hoping it will change to dynamic IP address..

I'll keep the thread updated,

Kind regards, C.
