Model: Archer A5
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 0.9.1 0.2 v009b.0 Build 200703 Rel.51583n(5255)

Hello everyone,

I am kinda desperate already due to problems I have with this router.

Setup:

I've bought a device in a legit store (I am from Ukraine) and use it with my internet provider as a wifi router.

I've set up two networks - 2.4 & 5 GHz respectively.

We have like 5 mobile devices connected (all to 5Ghz spot) and 4 laptops (two to 2.4 and two to 5 GHz).

Problem:

It all first started with lags while watching movie and this followed 2.4GHz spot.

I've made a ping toward google.com - it all seemed right.

Whenever a packet loss between a device and router occur - 5GHz spot faces the same issue.

Like the 2.4 GHz is causing all of this.

Now it all got worse: my kid has online classes due to lockdown - and he just can't attend it normally as he constantly gets disconnects! (2.4GHz spot).

While writing this I've switched my MBP to 2.4 spot and I am shocked with ping 192.168.0.1 being this:

--- 192.168.0.1 ping statistics ---

457 packets transmitted, 457 packets received, 0.0% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.733/13.969/747.780/58.172 ms

And this is a ping from MBP on 5GHz spot:

--- 192.168.0.1 ping statistics ---

20 packets transmitted, 20 packets received, 0.0% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.915/95.365/342.612/108.738 ms

And this is - I am sitting just next to the router.

Diagnostics:

I've yesterday updated the firmware of device from stock to new one (2020 dated). It fixed things a bit, but not that issue is gone.

- changed the 2.4GHz to BG only (instead of BGN).

- disabled WPS

- pinged google.com using wifi router to see how router interacts with web - no packet loss for 50 packets nor the ping spikes.

- checked the wifi channels and selected the most less propagated one.

I need your help. This problems are ridiculous. Thanks

Update: Tried reducing the signal strength from "High" to "Medium" for both 2.4&5GHz respectively - not a fix either.

@DigimonTech

Try to disable nat boost.

@ksuuk Actually I couldn't find "Nat boost" anywhere.

I've unchecked earlier "Enable WMM" under 2.4GHz AP. (It was turned on before problem, and unchecking this didn't quite fix anything at all).

And this same "Enable WMM" is checked without permission to change for 5GHz.

Thanks & Regards

@DigimonTech

In C80 is located > advanced > network > internet > nat boost

And seems You are using very old firmware, maybe You should upgrade it - https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/download/archer-a5/#Firmware

@ksuuk Thanks for reply.

I apply screenshot to show that this is different what you say from my setup.

Check screenshot

And as for the firmware version - I flashed this one: Archer A5(RU)_V4_200703.zip

Which looks to be more recent than the one you've suggested for UK.

(My version is RU so I flash RU not to broke the shitty router completely :D).

Thanks & Regards

@DigimonTech

:(

As You don't have this option, so then nat boost is not an issue.

Hopefully upgrade helped?

@DigimonTech

How many devices connected to the A5 most of the time, are all of them experiencing the same ping spikes at the same time?

We have reported the issue to the support engineers, they will likely reach out to you via email to continue to troubleshoot your issue.

@Kevin_Z I have like 4 smartphones, 4 laptops. All of them face the same issue and it doesn't depend on the 2.4 or 5 GHz spot. Actually 5GHz works better and less spikes, however not all of the devices support this standart.

Engineers are in touch with me already, appreciate your help. Thanks
