HI,

I'm trying to set up port forwarding on my router so that I can access a webcam remotely. Using "Address Reservation", I've set the camera up with a static IP address (192.168.1.190) and using "Virtual Servers"have forwarded port 8400 to this address. I can now access the camera via http://192.168.1.190:8400. I've also checked the port using various port checkers and the port is definitely "open". I've set up DDNS so that "mycam.dyndns.org" points to my router (at least if I type into a browser "mycam.dyndns.org" it takes me to the router username/password dialog box.

However, typing in "mycam.dyndns.org:8400" just results in an error - "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to mycam.dyndns.org:8400".

I've now spent three days trying to work out what I've missed/done wrong ! This used to work with my old BT router - so I'm certain it's some setting I'm missing. Does anyone have any ideas what I can check ? Or how I can track the error down ?

Thanks for any help
David L.

it takes me to the router username/password dialog box. If you type in the username and password, does it lead you to the webpage of the router?
If you use WAN IP: 8400, can you open webcam on the remote side?

Thanks for the reply Joyce.

If I type in my DNS hostname it now takes me straight to the router homepage (I suspect I've clicked on "save username and password" at some point).
If it type in the WAN IP:8400 then I get "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to xx.xxx.xxx.xx:8400"
If I type in just the WAN IP it takes me to a username/password dialog box that leads to the router home page.

Regards,
David L.

Just for the benefit of anyone else having port forwarding problems with this router, I thought I'd better update this thread with the solution.

I went back to my old BT router - and it worked straight away.

After nearly a week of attempting to get something really simple working - and speaking to TP-LINK support in China (who told me that port forwarding can't be tested from within my LAN), I gave up. It just wasn't worth the hassle.

So, if you've got port forwarding issues - and have read this thread looking for a solution, I'm sorry - I don't have one - other than buying a different router.

Yes, you are right.
This router is having problem with port forwarding.
I reported a similar issue too, but seems like helpless.

I too agree with that. I even have issues in connection with USB Storage. Cannot change the directory name and cannot create the folders either.

Hello,
I use dyndns for all my cameras and use ports :6001 onwards on my old Eircom router it worked fine but did not work on the w8968, only worked on internal ip addresses, I read also that there was no loop back so I used a VPN connection back to my home router in the uk then tried it and it was working fine all the time on the new router.

Have TD-W8968 and very happy with it. Had so much trouble with it and port forwarding several servers that I went and bought another modem. That one occasionally dropped the connection.
Back to the 8968 and eventually jagged it. Simply turn the firewall on and tick the radio button 'Allow the packets not specified by any filtering rules to pass through the device'.
Now I can RDP into as many machines as I like on the 8968.
