Need a Router for home use, Recommendations?

Hello,

I live in UK and I am stuck using Virginmedia as my internet provider... Which also means I am stuck using their useless router... Anyway, that means I can put that Garbagio in a modem mode and use a better router, YAY small victories!

What I am looking for is a router that can provide stable wi-fi, to uhh... You know 150 devices + probably toaster in a future. ^^ Everything has wifi. The problem with VM is that, as fast as that wifi will go, it will also disconnect as fast, making it unusable as a gamer and otherwise annoying. So yeah, I want a router that can handle MANY devices and will hold a stable fast connection. So here I am looking for advice. :) Wi-Fi 6, since my PC actually is capable of it.

Funny story. I got a Ethernet cable going to my room, I got a cheap cable when I moved in the house you know 100mbps kind... I did that because, I didn't think the cheapest connection would get fast enough to be faster than the cable. :D Nor that I would be staying here this long... But oh well, life happens. Now I got a good PC with good Wifi card and I might as well get rid of that cable for better speeds without replacing it.

Thank You! I'm a tech savvy person, but I am not well versed in Routers and such.

I don't think a TP-Link home used router can handle 150+ wireless devices, there might be channel congestion, and the internet won't be fast and stable.

@Kevin_Z  Sorry, if it came across wrong. I was only making a joke, however to some truth to it. The thing is, in this modern day, pretty much everything has wifi, so I was making a joke on that. My fault for not being specific with my case. Anyway...  I'm not sure how active some of the devices are, but in total there should be around 5-10 active devices and then you add up the more passive devices to a total of 20 or so. TV's, PC's and phones being the more common ones, down to TP links own smart bulbs and such. I tried keeping the devices to minimum, but even then the Virginmedias own router cannot provide a stable connection. That is what brings me here. So what would I be looking at for this scenario?

On a side note, I have seen some "gaming" routers. Aside from flashy colors and "Gaming" Label, do they actually have any real benefit?

Thank You!

laughThat's fine, sorry for my poor understanding of the 'joke'.

If there are more or less 20 devices need to be connected to the network, most of the AC and AX routers can meet your requirements. You can check this buying guide to get a proper model for your house/layout:

If some of your devices are already equipped with AX adapters, or you prepare for the Wi-Fi 6 and budget is not an issue, and gaming is important in your daily life, you can go with something like Archer AX11000:
