Model: RE305
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I have bought the RE305 because my box has a very good connection speed by ethernet (around 850mb/s), but a very poor one by wifi (aroud 50Mb/s). So I thought that if I plugged an access point by ethernet and I connected to it by wifi, my connection would be really better... but connecting to my RE305 (on the 5GHz) just take it to 70Mb/s...

I have tried with different ethernet cables, I also try at a friend's house and I have the same speed... Is my RE305 broken or is it its max speed (and it would useless in my case...)?

Thank you.

@AnthonyCr Hello,

Thank you for your detailed post.

I double-checked the spec of RE305, it has a 100Mbps Ethernet port that's why the speed on RE (AP) mode is less than 100Mbps.

https://www.tp-link.com/home-networking/range-extender/re305/#specifications

As your router speed is 800+, it is recommended consider a range extender with a Gigabit port like model RE450/RE505X/RE550 etc.and speed should be much better

You could check Range extender's spec part to find RE uses  a Fast Ethernet port *100 / Gigabit port *1000, hope this could help.

@Solla-topee

Oh my god, it was so simple... I just had to read the specs...

Thank you, I just have to buy an access point with the correct port...
